Cosmetics disappeared... Is it a bug or pointless removal?

I'm no stranger to bugs - they happen. New games come out so often and so quickly these days that it's nearly impossible for some to slip through the cracks during a game's launch or subsequent updates. It's an unfortunate reality of modern gaming that, as an individual and an adult, I understand. However, as a player of these games (Dragon Age specifically, in this instance) who spends hours - or days, even - customizing their characters, collecting as many armor cosmetics we can get our hands on like a fiend, and hoarding our options like a rip off Golem with his "precious" until we're finally satisfied with our character's appearance, I also understand the frustration that comes with just randomly losing one of the cosmetics that made me go "that's the one". Such is the case with this first official update of Veilguard.

While it's safe to say that a chunk of the bugs everyone has experienced these last few days have been taken care of - always worthy of a thank you - it's actually because of a side effect of this first update that I write this overly worded and eloquently phrased discussion that boils down to one simple sentence. One sentence that, while not as elegant as the rest of my words, is echoing in the furthest reaches of my soul...

Where the f*** did my cosmetic go?

After the update, which I will admit was exciting at first - free N7 cosmetic, sign me up - I started up the game and went to my wardrobe only to discover that if I were to change a few of my cosmetics, I would likely NEVER see them again (at least, at this moment). Several new (at least, I assumed they were new) cosmetics choices appeared in my wardrobe that were locked due to my not acquiring them as of yet (as dictated by the diamond marking the top left corners of said cosmetics), which added more excitement for the new update until I noticed something... Odd. My Rogue's two-handed weapon - her bow, that is - no longer had it's currently equipped cosmetic as an available option. And, I don't mean that the cosmetic was locked again. I mean that it was gone from the list, nowhere to be seen or selected again should I change the cosmetic to try a new one. Having my suspicions raised, I scoured through each cosmetic on each character, noted what was and wasn't actually new to the game, and began to itch what's left of my mammal brain in confusion while I scoured the net to see if anyone else had noticed this problem or if I alone experienced this minor setback. As I closed the game and opened it once more, reset the console (PS5 in my case), un-installed and re-installed the game, and just overall lost my composure for a solid 30 minutes, I just couldn't understand what happened. Where did it go? How could I hover over the weapon slot and clearly see that it's equipped cosmetic is the "Dauntless Greatbow (Arlathan)" but I couldn't find it as a listed option? Was I the only one experiencing this unfortunate trickery? Had Fen'Harel, Dread Wolf and Elven God of Trickery, played some prank on me for his own amusement? Or was this the Blight manifesting itself in the code to cause mayhem and chaos? Only the forums could shed light on this grim unfolding of events, hopefully giving me an answer - if not a solution.

And, so, here we are. Me, retelling my morning frustrations over coffee and a cigarette, and you, hopefully getting a morsel of amusement for said frustrations (and taking notes, if your an EA support ninja) to kickstart your day.

Anywho, I've attached pictures as evidence of this unfortunate conundrum (I know, I know. Camera pictures of a screen, gross). I can't say I feel wronged or any sort of rage associated emotion towards the circumstances, just a lot of confusion to which some answers would be nice. Outside of that, great game so far, I've been a huge fan of Dragon Age since it's launch over a decade ago and continue to be - current issues aside.

Sincerely yours, one of the many Heroes of Thedas.

  • Upon further examination, I have discovered that I am, in fact, oblivious to details at times. I am a fool.

For starters, my bow's cosmetic had not disappeared. I simply didn't look close enough to realize that my equipped bow was the very same bow cosmetic I could not find. Of course, it's chosen appearance would not show up in the list of selections! It was the default appearance all along! Shame upon myself.

Secondly of note, I will assume that the difference in weapon type specifically has an effect on the available cosmetic choices. For example, the Dauntless Greatbow weapon itself is a Longbow while the bow I wish to change to it's appearance is a Shortbow. Logically, it makes sense that I would not be able to make a Shortbow look like a Longbow, nor vice-versa. Customizability wise... Sad day.

In conclusion, it is clear for all to see that - as previously stated - I am but a fool, oblivious to the logical and obvious answers to a conundrum of mine own design. Blinded by freshly woken thought process and ill placed frustrations, I spewed foolishness and slander, speaking of things I simply did not understand as if I - all along - were the expert of such matters.

So, yeah. My bad. Hopefully, someone at least gets a kick out of this.
