Crackling audio

I've seen a few others report this issue but I'm having it as well. Basically I get cracking audio as soon as I load into Minrathous. It sounds awful and the dialogue from Varric sounds crackly and distorted as well.

I tried verifying that my sound drivers are up to date (they are), tried reinstalling them (no change in the issue) and I also tried tweaking every audio setting in the game to see if that changed anything. No dice there either.

I also checked my audio settings and I don't have any enhancements enabled nor do I have spatial sonic sound on.

At a bit of a loss as to how to fix this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also having this issue. I've gone down the same list of possible fixes and nothing is working, so I'm not sure what to do.

  • i have the same issue, opening scene in minrathous is just a lot of crackling and the dialogue is very sluggish. it's very bad and quite unplayable at the moment...my motherboard is a GIGABYTE Z370P D3, i5-8400 and a RTX 4060 Ti. i don't think i have any enhancement at the monent, i'll check. Wow that plus the no arrow keybind problem, that's quite a bad launch...

i asked a friend for help, he had me turn off audio enhancers in sound settings in the control panel. i think it was ctrl panel>sound>properties(for headset)>enhancements, then checked the box that disables all. it worked for me :)

Thanks. I tried that as well and sadly it didn't fix the issue for me.

I don't get any audio issues in the menu or even in the intro cinematic. But as soon as I get into the game basically the audio is just...messed up.

  • I don't know if it helps but I have an Nvidia Geforce card and I saw someone on Reddit saying that the new drivers for it (which were ironically designed for Veilguard) can cause the issues that we're all experiencing.

I've installed a previous driver and I'm currently loading the game up and going through the looooong shader compilation again.

I'll let you all know if this actually fixes anything for me, but if you want to try it yourself it's an option I guess.

I checked and I have a previous version of the Nvidia drivers, but I still have the audio crackling issue. I never install video card drivers immediately as they drop because I had an issue in the past.

Well I just rolled back to a previous Nvidia driver and I still have the exact same issue.

I'm at a loss here. I've tried different drivers, disabling enhancements, changing the sample rate and bit depth, tweaked every single audio setting in game to different settings, tried different audio jacks....nothing works. Very frustrating.

I hope Bioware has a fix for this soon.

Experiencing the same - the only issue I'm having thankfully but it gets very annoying very fast

  • I decided to push forward into the prologue to see if the audio issues improve at all and they actually do somewhat once I get away from the tavern and the people right outside it.

There's still static and sound tearing and it doesn't sound good at all but it's a lot more...playable sounding after that. Still need to get this fixed to make it better though. It sounds pretty bad right now even if it improves quite a bit after moving away from the starting spot.

I wonder if all the ambience from all the npcs on screen at once is causing it to get even worse?
