Which dragon specifically?
There's one mandatory dragon fight that will end after you get it on its side. To do this, aim for one of the legs. Once the dragon falls on its side, attack the weak spot on its belly.
Make sure to inspect dragons for their weaknesses and exploit this. For instance, if you're fighting an ice dragon, it will be weak against fire weapons and abilities.
