every time i use the mirror to edit my appearance, it does not save my changes

firstly, my very first save (which i played for about 3 hours) started giving me a load error and i am unable to load it anymore, so after trying many times to fix it i just accepted defeat and made a new save, imported my character, and she spawned without her makeup. i went to the magic mirror to edit her makeup back on and to tweak her face and body, and every time i save and exit the mirror, my changes don't save and i still dont have makeup or my edits to her appearance. i've been trying to play this game but i keep encountering annoying bugs like this or ones that are game breaking. any fixes for this?? i dont want to remake my whole character again or replay the prologue for the 100th time.
