Every time I load somewhere outside the Lighthouse, I get a 'Load Error' and can't load the game. It's made the 3rd act basically impossible because unless I finish it all in one go, I can't save and...

If you are on a PC try to repair the game.
(EA app: My Collection > Click on the three dots on the game cover > Repair)
(Steam: Game Library > Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.)
