Lyrium dagger runes no longer working

Hi I've noticed this, that ever since the last patch when fighting dragons during quests (the 2 blighted and one with Taash) the runes don't work anymore and I get the message invalid target. Don't think this is supposed to be like that. I'm playing on pc via steam.
