Manual save deleted during auto-save conflict
Thankfully, this issue may not be that bad due to happening around the time of auto-save, but I wanted to report it regardless because it could lead to deeper problems, especially if I didn't notice right away.
I was at 5/100 manual saves and went to overwrite an existing save. As I was going through the prompts, I got the warning that another save was in-progress (thanks auto-save) and dismissed the warning, I believe through pressing escape. After the auto-save completed, I went to find the manual save again to retry and it was completely gone. Checking at the manual save count, I noticed it was also at 4/100 now. I immediately exited the game and came back just in case it was corrupted in memory only and it was still gone.
Upon creating a new save to replace the one that went missing, the next default save name was Save 5. After creating that save, however, the next default save name for a new save was Save 7, which I found very odd since I had never created more than 5 manual saves before and have never deleted any intentionally ever, only using the overwrite feature every single time when creating a new save. So I am not sure if I have a corrupt save that it sees as the sixth save somewhere now. Perhaps when it overwrites, it creates a new save first before deleting the old one, and something with the conflict prevented that from occurring but still ended up deleting the old save while abandoning the new save somewhere?
Some other observations:
- I have hit the "another save is in-progress" before when trying to overwrite a manual save, but it has never deleted the manual save that it failed to overwrite before
- It would be nice if auto-save didn't actually run when the game is paused and/or as soon as you open the save menu
- Instead of hitting a conflict and forcing you to retry, couldn't the manual save just wait for the existing auto-save that's in progress to finish and immediately queue itself up after to avoid this?
