Steam Achievements Didn't Trigger on Launch Day
Hello, everyone!
[Platform: Steam PC]
I pre-ordered the Veilguard special edition and installed it as soon as humanly possible/available (and this is what I'm suspecting was the problem) on launch day. It was to the point where it was saying installation was failing because game wasn't available, even though it had the play option, etc. Still, it eventually worked. I played for about 5.5 hours before closing the game and attending other plans. However, I noticed that I didn't get a single achievement.
This wouldn't have been an issue if I didn't see from the Library page for the game that several of my friends who got around to playing it maybe an hour after I had started had achievements I should have triggered. A couple were based on combat/wardrobe things (five takedowns, apply appearance on a weapon for the first time, etc), and then others were hidden achievements but I confirmed with them that they were, in fact, for completing Part 1, Part 2, etc.
Today, November 1st 2024, I started playing again. I thought maybe just launching it again would somehow kick it into gear, but absolutely nothing. It wasn't hard to get some of those more circumstantial achievements with the combat/clothes to trigger, even though they should have triggered yesterday. But the story progression ones didn't -- and still have yet to -- pop up.
It wasn't until I got the achievement for completing Part 3 -- on a list of achievements lacking 1 and 2 -- that I figured it was too far gone. I opened a case and spoke with a support agent to try and troubleshoot this for a while, but nothing worked. They even asked me to try and launch the game through EA, which didn't make sense (to me, who has not coded a single thing outside of a Tumblr profile theme) since I didn't own the game on EA launcher and my issue was through the Steam application, so I can tell this is probably either a niche issue or one that they don't have a fix for just yet/won't have a fix for.
I'm hoping to hear of some way to fix this that doesn't involve replaying the game from the beginning -- I'm not a replay-er of any RPG, sadly (they're just long and I am too emotionally attached to my first file, lol). Anyway, sorry for the wordy post -- I would've left it at the case I opened but the agent asked that I share it here as well. 🤗 I HOPE none of you had this issue but obviously, if you did, know that you are not alone.
(Also, I know this isn't a big deal or a serious problem. But some of us have certain conditions that make it extremely distracting for us once we notice even a small thing that is bugging us to get rectified, so I'm sorry that this is bothering me and maybe only me lol).
