VRAM leak! [MAJOR Performance bug!]

The game is suffereing from a severe VRAM leak on PC. Most typically this would happen when loading into a new area after a cutscene, the most early instance of this being when loading into Arlathan to meet Bellara for the first time.

On my PC, when starting a new game, VRM usage sits at 65%. The intro sequence plays out fairly stable at around mid-50s to 60 FPS. As soon as I land in Arlathan just before meeting Bellara, the VRAM usage shoots up to 85% and framerate drops to mid-20s.

After the cutscene meeting Bellara, if I save and close down the game and re-launch into the save, VRAM is at 75% and I again have a stable upper-50s framerate. By the time I reach the Veiljumper camp, VRAM is up to 87% with framerates in the sub-30s again. And on and on it goes... Lowering graphical settings does nothing to alleviate this problem, the same thing occurs whether I have graphics set to Ultra or Low. RTX off. And this problem keeps repeating through out the game.

No idea if it is a game bug or NVidia's fault, but this really needs to be addressed because it is not fun having to reload the game every 20 minutes just to get stable performance out of it.

RTX 3080, i7 10700K, 32GB RAM, NVMe drive, Windows 11 24H2, all drivers and software up to date.

I've just discovered that by disabling shader compilation when the game launches (I use Frosty Mod Manager Alpha5, which provides the option to turn it off), perfromance and stability is dramatically improved! No more VRAM leak, no more frame rate drops. I don't know why this work, but it does. There is clearly a big problem with the game's shader cache.

  • Honestly, this is the game itself as my laptop has the same specs as you and I don't run it on Nividia. It runs a lot harder than some of my bigger file games and it gets warm quickly. I also have the issue where everything is all white/red in a lot of areas. I've tried running it off my 1tb Seagate drive and directly to my laptop, but nothing keeps my VRAM low. It feels they rushed the release with all bugs and glitches being reported on.
