Weapon bug

I found a bug that is making me crazy! My character (grey warden, warrior), will not use his two handed weapon. He reverts to cleaver and shield! In inventory, it says he has two- handed Great Axe eq...

This maybe a dumb question but...are you making sure to switch to your two-handed weapon with the down button on d-pad (controller) or the x button on Mouse/Keyboard?

I only ask because this game defaults you to sword and shield and you have to switch to Two-Handed. It's not like other DA games where you pick one you are kinda meant to switch back and forth between the two handed and the sword and shield
