EA App Offline Mode Feedback

Since this is, as far as I can tell, the only way to leave feedback for the new app that we are forced to use 🙂

Requiring users to log in online in order to go offline with such frequency is simply ridiculous. Not even allowing game files to start if the internet is not connected, and attempting to open the EA app instead of the game is ridiculous.

The MAIN and most important use of offline modes in game launchers is for when users don't have internet access. I should not have to be some kind of precognitive psychic in order to magically predict when I might lose internet access just so I can preemptively go into offline mode before that happens.

Steam may have its own problems but it at least gets this right 90% of the time.

I want a setting in the EA app that permanently allows users to access our single-player, offline games, which we have paid for, regardless of whether or not we have a connection. I don't want to be permanently offline, I would still like updates, I just want to be able to still access my games if the internet goes out, and if I do have internet, I can just reconnect, without then worrying that the next time I don't have internet I won't be able to access it anymore because I went online once. The point is that I should be able to enable a setting ONCE, and then from that point onward, not have to continue thinking about it (or, apparently, constantly plan for internet disconnection at all times ~just in case~)

If it's not a multiplayer game I shouldn't have to be connected to the internet just to launch it. If it's not actively downloading an update, I shouldn't need an internet connection to use it. Period. No qualifications. I shouldn't even need to launch the app to launch the games if all the files are sitting there on my computer.

There's a reason I hardly ever buy EA games anymore and it's because they are not only user unfriendly but actively user hostile.

If EA, the company whose CEO makes more in annual salary than I will ever have over the span of my entire life, wants me to buy their games, they need to cut the crap. Offline mode requiring you to go online first basically at all times and, apparently, not even working correctly, is like... what is the point? Why should I buy these games? You are giving me absolutely no incentive.

Don't tell me how to "go offline" from the menu. I know how to go offline. It's not good enough.

I know the forum moderators have zero power but I don't want useless tech help that doesn't solve the actual issue, I am providing feedback for this app. That's it.

  • @glassjars I've been dealing with this app ALL DAY. Does not start at all, can't even launch a game I paid for YEEEARRRRS ago. I'm (removed).

  • @glassjarsYou said, "I shouldn't even need to launch the app to launch the games if all the files are sitting there on my computer."

Ain't that the damn truth. It's like they're punishing you (us) for having the audacity to buy their game. lol

  • to add my two cents. my issue in particular is that the app fails to recognize when "offline mode" is set by the user versus actual internet connectivity issues. every time i get my sims 4 mods up to date, ea forces a new patch which makes everything not up to date, and usually breaks something if not the game itself (like the faces bug in april) and it takes a few days for most mod makers to update.

every time i go offline to be able to play without having a new update forced, which makes no sense at all since sims 4 is a single player game and shouldn't need updates forced, i get logged out after about an hour. this is the millionth time i've been logged out, and it's incredibly irritating to get a pop up yanking my window focus away, stating "uh oh you've been logged out due to a particularly stubborn issue" while in the middle of the game that the app itself launched. the awareness of the app about the games it's launching is abysmal, the awareness of the app of user-set offline mode is worse. if you're playing a game it should never log you out. ever. if you've manually gone offline, it should never log you out. ever.

and stupid thing still shouldn't be logging you out of the app when you have legitimate connectivity issues. if you have logged in within a certain amount of time on steam, for example, and yes i'm throwing in a competitor to show the standards ea should already be functioning by and i swear had been with origin, steam doesn't log you out. it knows you're offline and that's okay, you had access recently and maybe you're on an airplane or something and can't log in while you play your games. steam also recognizes when a user goes into offline mode intentionally, because maybe, just maybe, you want to not be online for reasons such as a quiet session of gaming without being pestered by random friends or it's peak traffic time and your isp weirdly charges by the gigabyte, or you're avoiding a forced update on a single player game until the mods are also updated.

  • I did a search on this help website for "why is the EA app so cr*p?" and this topic came out at the top. I totally agree with everything that has been said. My personal pain is met when trying to play C&C3 - an old game which I bought on DVD-Rom years ago and I bought it again via EA/Origin. Now that I have purchased it twice I seem to have little or no chance to actually play it when I want to. I get an error everyday regarding a mandatory update and reboot of the app which happens and nothing changes. I also sometimes get the "There's a problem at our end" error which is really useful. The rare occasion when I get to the game launcher screen I usually get a cloud saves error when I've done everything I can to remove them or change settings to my local machine. I dream that one day, I turn my PC on and click on my game and it opens with me having the nice feeling of knowing that I have paid full price twice for it and feel as if I own it and should be able to use it. If only. The fact that somebody has paid for a product should mean they get the goods advertised. Not an assault course of online requirements and garbage. Sort it out EA - scrap the App and start again. I've used Steam since it began and it's been flawless. I tell anyone and everyone I can possibly speak to to avoid the EA app like the plague.
