Poor experience so far with new EA App

Hi,

Upgraded from Origin yesterday, and so far the experience has been very bad. For one thing it's laggy - like taking multiple seconds to switch between pages. But beyond that it's just bad at doing the thing it's designed to do as a launcher - launching games. Half of the time they don't start - I get a box appear with a progress bar but the game never launches. The only way around this is to kill the EA app and associated processes completely in  Task Manager, then relaunch. When I do manage to get past this, most of my games are showing an error saying that the local files could not be found, and that cloud sync will not be possible.

Pretty terrible experience considering you're soon to be taking away Origin for this buggy rubbish. When can we expect this to work properly?

UPDATE: I have to give credit where it's due - while the app hasn't really been updated in any significant ways since I made this post, I have noticed some improvements to the launching of games - specifically the cloud sync issue I mentioned seems to have been resolved. Thanks for addressing that, EA!

Thanks,

  • Problem is that EA thinks its working fine and therefore are going to force this mess upon us.

I have used this app for a week now and have also all sorts of issues.

In addition to the things you mention I have these issues:

-lags when moving around on desktop

-updating games takes 3 times longer than in origin

-repairing games take 2 times longer than origin

-repairing app fixes nothing (nothing like clearing cache in origin)

-around 5-10 lower fps in battlefield 2042

    -resizing resets when closing app

-no way to resize game icons only

-no way to opt out of ea's data mining

    -no fps counter

-no way to personalize notifications from friends list

-app minimizes itself when launching games hiding friends list

-app sometimes opens cmd when launching games

-I sometimes appear as invisible on friends list even though I never choice that

Game related that only happens in EA app and are major issues. These does not happen in Origin.

-games keeps crashing and freezing (tested battlefield 2042, Fifa 2023 and F1 22. )

-games keeps randomly "clicking" buttons by itself. Its really bad in Battlefield 2042

-games crashes randomly when alt + tab

-games have 5-10 less fps when using EA app. (Measured with third party tool since ea app doesnt have its own counter. In battlefield 2042 used console command to show fps.)

Note I have tried most "fixes" like reinstalling game, resetting settings, repair. recovering ea app etc. even tried to reinstalling gpu drivers, mouse and keyboard etc. But since this is only happening if playing from EA app and not in Origin its pretty clear what causes the issues. Hint: its blue

So in short I'm back using Origin since all of the issues above is not present in Origin.

However I'm really looking forward to being forced to deal with all of those game related issues in the near future...

So just like OP I too am wondering when we can expect this app to work properly.

  • I didn't like the way the app was forced on us. I've found certain settings aren't being maintained after logging out, like monitor refresh rate.

I've reloaded BF4, but can't get sound to work on it, never had this issue before.

Also, a Medal of Honor game was missing from my library (not sure I'd miss it as I could never get it to open!)

This makes me remember why I never buy EA games anymore!

@TreizeKushrenata Same! It's been a month and I STILL can't access the games I paid for.

EA is never getting my money again. And I was looking forward to the new Skate game to.
