I find instead of using EA Desktop App, I find Steam and Epic work much better; they have advanced features such as download rate limiting.
Hopefully EA is able to figure this out (hopefully in a few years) I can purchase content from them again.
I mean or EA could just put the download restriction setting back in, that was in Origin so people can download stuff however they want instead of having to work around other peoples schedules. My connection isn't the fastest ever and I like to be able to set my downloads to only use half or so of my bandwidth. So perhaps I can play something else, or watch a show while it downloads.
But whatevs EA's not going to do anything about it.
That's really not the best thing. So I have to wait until tomorrow to play a game I'm excited for now? Gimme a break. Just implement this feature in the app smh
- @EA_Darko what a daft solution. it's 2021 mate, put in a download limiter. simple as.
stop making our gaming experience harder for your sake, this is such an inconvenience... but of course it's EA why did i expect anything good.... On the Origin App u can Limit the Downloadspped, why EA Desktop cant...
- @Kalle_der_Don Actually, Origin download limit works on EA Desktop!
The desktop app doesn't have a limiter but it shares settings with Origin app. - @Sherifzagreat I just tried it. The download limit in Origin is 4 MB/s but EA Desktop uses about 6.5 MB/s. So I think it is not working as you describe it. At least not for me.
Dear Darko,
In 2017 EA announced how clever they were allowing us to manage our download speeds.
Origin Spotlight Download Speed Management and More
Not sure why you (EA) suddenly thought that this was no longer needed? Tried the previous idea about using Origin to limit, and doesn't seem to work so...
For now will not be using the new app. I look forward to when it has proper management features implemented again.
Cheers,
This is a terible response to this issue. Please add a download limit feature in settings.
Literally every game platform has a download throttle, what a lame response.
Literally useless advice. We are looking to see if it has any sort of software powered download limiter. I still want to throttle my download speed during the night too.
Needs a download limit feature. Origin has it, epic games has it, ubisoft connect has it, blizzard has it, steam has it. The list goes on.

@TheSeries3 Thank you for the feedback.
I recently collected all the suggestions and feedback regarding the features and passed on all feedback and suggestions regarding features to the right teams.
Keep in mind that the EA app is still in development and more features will be implemented over time. During this time we are collecting all your feedback and I'll make sure that it makes it to the right people. - @EA_Jason thanks. I'll likely be switching back to origin till a download throttle feature is added. I can't have unlimited download speed with 2 other people using the internet in my home. I also can't watch youtube smoothly without capping the download speed.

That's exactly the feedback that I passed on, the impact of not being able to throttle the download to the other people on the same home network and that some player revert back to Origin because they want to use certain features that aren't available yet on the EA app.
Developing these features take time, but as long as you guys are providing the feedback I can let the team know what you want and how it impacts you.
Oh wow, I just got the EA Desktop app set up and was shocked to find there wasn't a throttle! I see I wasn't the only one. I'm glad you've passed the feedback about throttling download speeds along. It's always the most frustrating oversight to me when I have to use a new launcher. Looking forward to being able to download games at a time I want to, rather than at a time I need to.
Your excuse of it still being in development is equivalent to having Lamborghini giving out their first manufactured commercial car without brakes after having tested, experienced and improved the concept of vehicle transportation nearly every day for the last 25 years.
I know you work for EA but maybe you can see how utterly foolish it is?
I understand it's alot to expect but after years of endless cash-grabs, false promises, dissapointing revelations and crushed expectations from the company you answer for it's quite reasonable to wonder how the most basic feature wasn't in there in the first place, let alone after what was it now, 1 year?
*sigh*
(note that I am in no way mad with you, heck, I'm not even mad at all tbh. We're used to it by now, it's just an outmost dissapointment all though not a suprisingly one)
Wish you the best.
Sincerely
EA.. realy????
Until now there is no speedlimiter for downloads implemented 🤣😁🤣😁🤣😁
thats why this publisher got the worst reputation for.... nearby everything...you can only feel sorry for the programmers themselves!
if you have such project managers, salespeople and
ceo's as supervisors... you definitely don't need any more enemies 😒😏
game shop/library/downloader without the functionality to control the download speed...
Battlefield 2042 (back to the roots eh?) without a scoreboard and chat xDsome AAA Slotmachine-Games with skins/design's of the most famouse Sporttypes 😛
so please.... 😢 .... increases the team of programmers...
because if gamers, wich already spend so much money for not realy useful things like "weaponskins"
or something like that, will pay even more money for this things if the game awsome to play
without all this sad+rage+frustrating moments every EA published game regularly brings with it...
💔🤐
puuuhhh..... 120gb DL finished 😞i hope BF2042 is fixed so far that I do not lose the connection to the server or the map
absorbs my soldier every 5-10 minutes, like two weeks ago... 😬greetz Curtis
Why not just add a custom limit. yea know, like everyone else.
That's not a solution. Boy it's hard to do you job.
bad download speeds in AUS
It's almost 2023 and we still don't have one of the most basic features. Absolutely crazy how out of touch they are.
My wifi network crashes if I push it too hard with dowloads, and the EA app is almost always the culprit. It's gone down three times in the last ten hours after being stable for weeks. Only difference is last night I decided to install Mass Effect Legendary Edition...
I just bought Mass Effect Legendary Edition and cannot believe we are forced to use EA Desktop App that is in a state of pile of thrash, basic features missing (I had to redeem my my code using Origin since it would not work in EA app, no download throttle option, the list goes on). I will think at least twice before buying another game that runs in Origin/EA Desktop App. When can we expect basic features to be implemented?
"Keep in mind that the EA app is still in development and more features will be implemented over time"
Has been ONE YEAR, 12 MONTHS and this feature still is not on EA Play. WHY?
One would expect that because it STILL is in development, it would be faster to deliver BASIC features vs a fully released software that requires committee approval and all that BS EA loves to * their features with.
That's the point of giving users early access to the software, to see what works and what not, to quickly evaluate the ideas and problems, implement ones, remove others. But this is not a "still in development" software.
Is an already released software with SLOW development cycle, we are not getting a beta or an early release, we are getting the full thing, and IT SUCKS. Every other game launcher did not take 1 year to implement a bandwidth limiter but of course EA does, and apparently more than 1 year since it has already been 1 year and the feature still is not there.
EA has to hire the most incompetent people for something as basic as this still is missing, and not because they forget, they have been reminded about the lack of such necesary feature by the users, THEY KNOW users not only want it, THEY NEED IT.
