Right, after searching a bit more I see there is already an option to disable auto play of vids. 

Ooooff!  There it be:  Options tab/Accessibility Enable Autoplay (allow background vids on game hubs)

    No worries @Eeekey, the team will be adding things all the time and I only noticed the feature over Christmas when trying to catch up with my backlog of games from the year.
