Re: Why does the EA app not have a Gift option?

Hey @gibson20008 it's not possible to buy a gift for someone on the EA app but you can till do so through Origin and it would be playable on the EA app.

  • I cant download Origin- it keeps defaulting to the EA App. Is this really the only solution? If so my Christmas gift plans are destroyed.

Purchasing a gift through Origin doesn't seem to work if the person is on the EA App. I just tried for a friend of mine, but Origin can't find her user id anymore. I suppose once you switch to the EA App, your id is deleted from Origin?

I ended up getting a gift card as suggested, but I'm just gonna say, it's a bit scammy. I just wanted to get her the latest two Sims kits ($10), but the minimum amount I can purchase a gift card for is $15. I really hope that's not the direction EA is going, where gift cards will be the only way.

  • For anyone reading this thread after Mar 2023, reinstalling Origin no longer seems to be an option. About 2-3 seconds after you install, you get a non-dismissable modal window in the app that forces you to upgrade to EA Desktop.

Not maintaining feature parity between Origin and the EA App seems like a really strange (and poor) design decision.
  • I agree, this feature should be brought back for the EA App, I used it all the time on Origin.

  • Thank you for the link, but the EA app overrides the Reinstalled Origin. I haven't been impressed with the new EA. With Origin, I'd often gift packs and kits to my daughter and now it's extremely frustrating as her birthday is right around the corner.

    @EA_Leeuw
My dear friend had more or less stopped playingTS4 but, after months, is finally feeling the urge to start simming again.

In celebration, I offered to gift them an expansion pack and offered to gift them one of the two latest expansion packs.

After that, they spent around a week considering which one they wanted by watching videos and reading articles.

Imagine my utter horror when I discovered earlier today that we cannot gift packs via the EA App.

And now I must also disappoint my friend by informing them that their anticipated pack won't be in their Library today.

    It's beyond embarrassing!

I don't understand why the EA App fails to support such a popular feature!  Please bring it back!  Please!!!

I think I found a workaround to the EA App's lack of functionality regarding gifting.

In order to give the Growing Together pack as a gift to my friend, I went to Amazon where I bought the expansion pack as a "PC Online Gaming Code."

After purchase, I checked the email from Amazon which contained the product code.
Next, I messaged the product code to my friend who can now launch the EA then go "Library" then "Redeem Code" to download the pack into their library.

If I don't report back, it means that my friend was able to receive their gift (that is, redeem their product code) without a problem.

It would be so much easier if the EA App supported gifting, though.

  • Six months later, and EA still hasn't addressed this. There is simply no way to gift somebody a specific Sims pack on PC. How has this still not been fixed? Doesn't EA want our money?

    Hey @SecondSkratch,

Right now, the EA app doesn't have a way to send gifts. But, we've heard your suggestions about adding this and have passed them on.

Just because the app doesn't have this feature yet doesn't mean it's broken, it just means there's room to make it better. The steps to fix something and add new things are different.

    We really appreciate your feedback.

Edit: rewritten post to better explain reasoning.

"If something is not broken, it does not need to be fixed." this can only come from someone who does not use the launcher, to begin with.

So many features that we loved in Origin have been axed from this new EA Play advertisement billboard wannabe launcher, it's actually hilarious.

This can't be broken because we killed it💀

I used to buy games here instead of other platforms due to how good of an experience it was, but now you can't even send a gift to a friend. Jeepers

Now it's just used to start the game from a different platform.

origin was so much better 😂

  • Right, it's "working as intended" because they don't want EA Play people gifting their discounted games to people anymore.  What a bunch of nonsense.

  • Hey @EA_Leeuw,

There's actually something that's broken. It still hasn't been fixed. Origin had a feature that the EA app does not, and there's no way to work around it.

It's great that the feedback has been forwarded. Maybe it's time for some results.

@EA_Leeuw Here it is, December and prime gift-giving season, and there is still no possible way (Sorry, gift cards mean NO possible way because nobody wants to receive a gift card and nobody wants to give one, as they are LAME) to gift a game to someone. I hope EA understands that they're killing their own game, just like they did with SimCIty. With so many alternatives set to be released in 2024 and soon thereafter, the community be leaving The Sims ASAP, and it will become just another footnote in history. Way to commit corporate suicide, EA.

@makoto99 If you try to install Origin, it simply throws an error. You can no longer install it. Everyone has been forced to the app, which doesn't have the features, despite what that box --> over there on the side says:

    "WHAT'S EA PLAY?
New name, new look, SAME GREAT BENEFITS: EA Access and Origin Access are now EA Play."
  • I was really hoping to get my fiancee a copy of ME3 2012 because it has the multi-player that I love, but apparently it's no longer possible on the EA app. Are there any plans to rectify this?
