I've got a similar problem. Pre-ordered, canceled.
Then because curiosity got the better of me. got a key from a third party reseller and registered it.
Getting the "There was a hiccup" message when trying to download. BF2042 is the only game with problems.
Hey @f0rcefl0w,
As you received the code through a third party, it might not work on the EA app. This is a known issue and the teams have been made aware.
If you download and install the game through Origin it should work for you.
@neryuslu Could you reach out to our support team through EA Help to have this looked into? If there is something going wrong on your account, then we can't help with this through the forums.

Hey @EA_Jason.
Thanks for clarifying. This seems like a confusing oversight to me.
Is the situation going to be fixed soon? It's pretty confusing, most certainly because having both EA Desktop (because Game Pass) and Origin (because of issues like these) installed doesn't always play nice.- 4 years ago
Technically this makes no sense.
Both of our issues are the exact same, related to the cancelled pre-order that was not removed from the EA Desktop app when cancelling.
Therefore when you try to install, it still wants to install the initial purchase even though it was cancelled, resulting in the install failing.
This has absolutely nothing to do with a 3rd party purchase or whatsover.
