Correcting the EA App announcement.

While you were writing the announcement post for the EA App you appear to have been mistaken about a few things. I figured that as a loyal user of your services I could do you the favor of starting a discussion on how you can go about rectifying these.

"We’ve listened to your feedback and acknowledge the limitations of [Origin] [...]"
Citation is needed here, as there appears to be absolutely no clarification on what these limits in question actually are. Downloading and playing games, the one thing the application should do above all else? Origin did this just fine. Or are these limitations something else? This should be clarified if so.

"EA’s next-generation PC game platform - a faster, more reliable, and more streamlined gaming experience -[...]"
EA App takes over twice the time to launch compared to Origin and once launched, fails to even launch the games I am trying to play. (The one time I was able to log into the app itself at least).

"Today, we’re thrilled to announce that the EA app has officially left its open beta phase"
You appear to still be somewhere in the closed beta stage, considering the posts in Bug Reports and Technical Issues are still full of feedback to consider and implement such as adding a feature where you can play the games you've bought.

"The EA app is our fastest and lightest PC client to date."
Again, the EA App takes twice the time to start compared to Origin and to many users appear to be making games either run worse or not at all.

"With automatic game downloads and background updates you can ensure that your games are ready to play when you are."
Origin did this just fine. Why this is being pointed out as a feature for the new app when the old one did it too? I am ready to play but your next-generation PC game platform appears to disagree with me on this point.

"For our Origin players, we’ve worked hard to make the transition to the EA app as simple as possible. We will be inviting you to make the move soon, and by the time you receive your invite, all your games and content, including games previously installed, will be ready and waiting for you on the EA app."

Calling it an 'invite' is objectively incorrect as an invite can be rejected. What you are presenting is an ultimatum. "Download the new client or lose access to your games." The outcome of which was me losing access to my games despite accepting the ultimatum in question.

I will however say that it is truly as simple as possible to 'make the transition to the EA app'. I don't even have to bother with choosing a download location as this is done automatically to C: even if I am trying to install it to any of the other drives in my computer.

If anyone else has anything to add to this, please do feel free to leave a reply as I may have overseen things from my limited, yet personal experience with the next-generation PC game platform from our friends at EA.

  • I tried the EA app about 2 months ago and it failed to launch any of my games. I went back to Origin because I could run my games at least. You are 100% correct about all of this.

This is super frustrating since up until now they've made it seem like we were allowed to keep playing on Origin, but I guess the fact that people don't like their new platform has made them move to more drastic measures.
