"could not download EADesktop" even tho it is already installed - Xbox Game Pass

Since EA Play release on gamepass, I'm getting this error. When I press to install a EA Play game, it prompts me to install EA Desktop, it throws a error saying "Could not download EA Desktop" with a link to download from the website. I've downloaded and installed as it asked, and still got the same error.

I've already tried so many things. Re-installed both EA Desktop and Xbox apps, I've linked my Xbox account to the EA account through the EA Help website, restarted my pc, relogged to my xbox account on the xbox app and so on...

Any solution to this issue?

  • Ok, here what I did... I already had an EA account linked to Xbox Live, so I used that account and now I am installing Star Wars Squadrons, BUT, from EA Desktop... not from XBox App.

Not sure if this will work for all, but it did for me...

  • @panzerbergs I have almost the same problem, only in my case I did not have EA Desktop, but it directly did not let me install it, in other forums I read that I had to install Origin, in others they said that I had to manually create a folder within Program Files (x86) , among other things but nothing seems to work.
I really don't understand what the problem is, my computer has good stats so I don't think the problem has to do with a lack of system requirements ._.
    Help ☹️
  • Yeah this has been all iv had also, i cant even link my xbox account as the EA desktop app doesnt even prompt for that when i installed in manually, Why couldnt this have just all been done in gamepass app why did it require another app

  • So.. just a quick update... I actually FORMATED MY WHOLE PC, and the problem still persists. I can confirm it's a GamePass/EA issue, and not a PC/Windows issue.

And I imagine, from the time that has passed until now, with no EA response so far, they are giving 0 f*s for this issue.

  • I saw someone that gave that solution over Reddit yesterday, but at EA Desktop it wasn't showing that I had GamePass... but now all of a sudden it shows, guess their servers are congested or something...

Thanks for the reply, I'm download Squadrons and DA Inquisition right now over EA Desktop.
