I was trying to update Battlefield 2042 and the download speed was horrendously slow. So, I went into Apps in Windows settings and chose to uninstall the EA app. It then gave an option to Repair. So, I chose that and the app went through the process and had to download files, which was still extremely slow. After the repair finished and after several restarts of the app, I was able to complete the game update at my normal fast download rates. I hope this works for you and anyone else experiencing this ridiculousness. Best of luck!!
- Awfully slow is not really a good description; even the "solution" is kind of an bad excuse because of CDNs.
According to procmon, there's a peak of 167kB a second but lingers around 20-40kb/s. This remembers me of my old 64k-modem, which was faster.
In contrast the Ookla Speedtest, which from my entry point Frankfurt to the US Westcoast, shows an average speed of 268.4 Mbps per second. getting from bits to bytes, this means 33.5 MByte/s peerage, and at most 180 kByte/s speed. It is just a matter of using 0.5% of the available bandwith or in other terms at best it take 200 times more than possible.

Already tried network reset, tried clearing cache, tried the .ini tweak a lot say fixes it nothing has worked. I have 0.5 gigabit, so it is going around 1/5 of my internet speed.

Hello,
I have a 2 Gbit fiber connection internet, 2000 Mbit/s, which usually downloads games on Steam/Riot at a speed of 230-250 MegaBYTES per second.
I installed EA App, ran it as administrator, and can not get it to download faster than 7MB/s (around 60Mbits per second).
I tried all the mentioned solutions in other threads, forums, youtube videos, nothing helped.
But an even bigger issue is this:
The EA App actually throttles my internet connection as soon as it starts downloading.
For example, in speed test I will do a test and it will be aforementioned 2000 Mbits/s
However, as soon as I start the EA App download of Battlefield 1, my actual internet speed goes all the way down to 60-120 Mbit/s range!
I can even start a speed test, it will hover around 2000 mbit, at the same time I start the download process, and in the test the speed falls all the way down.
Something is very broken with the EA App because it hijacks the internet speed completely.
What is going on?

After I was done with this post, whenever I tried to do a speedtest, it would never actually go higher than 900mbit/s
I went back to a previous system restore point, before EA App, and now my internet speed is back at 2000 mbit/s.
EA App and game download were the only factors in this, as I've reverted all the changes people on this forum and elsewhere suggested.
So not only does the EA App throttle your internet speed during a download, it somehow also affects it afterwards.
The setting for "unlimited" works as intended, it's just they somehow take control of your internet and reduce the speed so the unlimited is not a whole lot.
After I finished with the restore point, I never again intend to install the EA App or play any games associated to it.
This requires proper investigation.

It has been two weeks now. Does no one care about this?

Even after 30 days there are no official replies. This problem is replicable.
If it helps in diagnosing the cause, the only out-of-ordinary thing is that my EA App was installed in another disk partition, other than C
Regardless, this behavior simply is not acceptable.

I'm sorry, but if you alter the way the EA app is supposed to be installed on your system and you run into issues, I'm afraid there isn't much we can help with.
I'd recommend completely removing (with Revo Uninstaller Free, for example) and reinstalling the EA app the way it's supposed to be installed to see if you're still experiencing this issue.
Thanks.

Hello! I’m having an issue with the EA Play app on my alaptop (HP Victus Gaming 16). My download speeds are stuck at 3-4 MB/s even though I’ve set the app to “unlimited” in the settings. My internet connection is faster than this, the download speed is around 30 MB — Im certain about that I usually get much higher speeds on other platforms like Steam, so I know it’s not my network.
Here’s what I’ve already tried:
- Cleared the EA Play app cache.
- Repaired the EA Play app.
- Restarted the EA Play app
- Restarted my laptop.
- Check for Windows and driver updates (everything is up to date).
- Confirmed no other apps are hogging bandwidth (via Task Manager).
My system specs :
- OS: Windows 11
- SSD: PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2
- RAM: 16 GB
EA Play App: Latest version
Has anyone else experienced this slow download problem? Any fixes or suggestions? Could this be a server-side issue on EA’s end? Thanks in advance for any help!
