Why Does EA Force Game Pass PC Members to use EA Desktop?

EA should really have the option to port EA Play with Game Pass to Origin as well as EA Desktop. It makes no sense that EA is forcing everyone to use an unstable, "Beta" version of a launcher when they already have a pre-existing, much more stable, and reliable launcher. I get that they want it for testing, but leave that to the people who volunteer to contribute their feedback on their own accord rather than forcing everyone to do so. EA Desktop is extremely buggy and severely affects my games. First off, EA Desktop does not create Desktop Shortcuts despite mentioning it when you launch a game from the app. So you will have to literally go into your programs folder to create a shortcut for every single one of your games you install through EAD, that is if there is even a shortcut for the game in the file location (*coughFallenOrdercough*). You also have to reinstall the game -Which you also can't do through EAD by the way, only through Windows Program Manager- if you want to change the language of the game if it doesn't have the option to do so in-game, which is part of the removal of game properties and advanced launch options that I found very useful in Origin. On top of that, I've been experiencing network issues and severe performance drops ever since I started playing through EA Desktop. Trying to launch PvZ: Garden Warfare takes forever to launch (like 5 minutes later at least). And once I exit the game, I have to restart my PC or relog back into my user in order to launch the game again because it will not launch again after you've quit the game once. Star Wars BF2 has been experiencing network connectivity issues and mouse/UI bugs ever since I started playing it through EAD. Trying to connect to the BF2 servers with the "Connect" button is a trial and error process, and I have to disabled Discord in-game Overlay in order for the mouse and UI to function properly. I also experience severe FPS loss for every game I have installed through EA when that never happened through Origin. And no, it's not any issues with my system because I run EA Desktop with my games across three PCs that I own, and the problems are consistent for every single one. Really, it's upsetting that we can't port our Membership to Origin, or at least have Origin detect that we have a Game Pass account linked to EA. Why is this?

Regardless of whether or not that is the case, licensing should not perfect the performance of games.

  • @holger1405 The EA Play Game Pass integration was delayed for 3 months, there is absolutely no acceptable excuse for still having issues that makes some games literally unplayable. Hell, even without a delay it's not acceptable to have an utterly terrible client(EA Desktop app, shouldn't even exist, Origin was fine) and a service that does not work for some users.

I know that this is frustrating, but as said, EA Desktop is still a beta and Game Pass integration is very new.
Problems with such integration are inevitable.

In regards to Origin, I am a member of this board for 9 years, and I can tell you, out of experience, that Origin was not that fine for many users. 😉

Imho this new client was long needed.

Now porting a client with a user base of +100 million and an almost infinite number of different hardware and software configurations and new features, like Game Pass integration, is complicated, to say the least.

@holger1405 Origin is still not fine, but EA managed to make EA Desktop so much worse, we better off using Origin as is.

They removed the already limited features and options we had on Origin, there is simply no reason to use EA Desktop.

The fact it has been months and EA has barely added anything the community asked, clearly shows how much EA doesn't listen to the costumers whasoever (which was also a problem with Origin).

It is so bad, that EA Desktop is not even able to show my full library of games.

    It is a Beta.

Most if not all this features will be added by the time EA Desktop is a release candidate.

I would at least wait until then to complain.

@Carbonic The issue isn’t Xbox Game Pass being buggy. The issue is that literally any game you play on EA desktop is buggy, regardless if it’s played through Game Pass. When I first tried EA Desktop, games that I previously owned and didn’t use through game pass were still full of bugs when launched through EA Desktop.

@JDaTopo If there any specific bugs that you are running into, then please head over to our Bug Report forums to post about them.
  • It's been a while since this was posted and EA desktop is still trash. Throw out an incomplete software and call it a beta I don't care, but I should not be forced to download and use this launcher that doesn't work. I only want to play 1 game and it won't launch the game. Says it's an error on EA's end. I've spent hours trying to fix it already only to conclude that EA never answers about this particular problem, I've seen what their answers are and it's either you can buy the subscription on origin or deal with it since it's a beta. Good customer service by the way... I've seen multiple forum and reddit posts with the same issue. If EA play didn't come with game pass I would never pay for this.

  • idk why they can't just use origin which works fine there are so many features missing and so many bugs i cant even move my game files from on drive to another i had to download complete game again on different drive and there is no cloud saves so all of my progress is gone if i want to play using this app then i have to start fresh

finish your apps and games before launching idk who thinks its a good idea to launch unfinished products

please just let us play games on any launcher we want whether we bought ea play on steam, gamepass or origin
