Why is there no option to Move a game to a different location??

How long is this APP going to stay in BETA? (For the rest of its life?)

I cant believe there is still no Move game game function yet.  Its been 1 - 1.5 years now since this app released.

Most time not a big issue as I can usually just hop onto Origin and move them from there.

But some games through EA Play membership do not show up on Origin:  Jedi Fallen Order, this is my issue right now.

I want to move the game to my D: drive (SSD)

I thought i could copy the game folder, un install the game.

start the download to my new location, pause, exit EA play.

Paste the copied Game folder, over write the started install.

Start EA Play, but this does not work, as when eaplay downloads files, they are place holder files with longer filenames, while downloading.

So it seems ea does not check for existing installs

Is there another work around here? or am I just going to have to re download it.

  • I figured this our my self.

Fix for doing this is quite simple.  And would be very easy to implement in the EA Play app.  Its one single registry entry which had to be changed:

    1. close the ea play app and make sure you close it in the task bar too.

    2. Copy (Do not Cut) the Jedi Fallen Order folder to your desired location. (Take note of the Path)

    3. To be safe rename the original game folder to Jedi Fallen Order.old (Don't delete just now to be safe)

    4. open Regedit as admin:

Ctrl+F to Find, enter: Jedi Fallen Order

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Respawn\Jedi Fallen Order

Change the install dir Key in the right hand panel to your new location i.e. F:\Origin Games\Jedi Fallen Order\

Next 2 entries may not be needed but I did these also:

hit F3 (to find next entry):

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{D00A89F1-2D8C-4589-B1D1-73A6544E3B1F}

Change the 3 strings on the right hand panel to match your new location (only the ones which have your old location) leave the C: alone (display icon, Helplink and install location)

    Hit F3 for next:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Respawn\Jedi Fallen Order

Same again here change the install dir string to your new location

    thats it.  Close regedit

start up EA Play and it should be there click on the 3... on the Game to see details or properties and your new location should be there.

start the game to test.. then delete the old folder.

3 years on and still no functionality to move games within EA app...!

Thanks, amended this for BF2042 and it worked perfectly (I did not do the last step, not sure if I needed 2nd step but did it anyway) 👍

  • It is ridiculous that a person has to jump through all these hoops when it would be so easy for EA to add a move button to the games themselves. Steam has one, why not the EA App. Origin had one, was EA that stupid to think that this would not be a necessary item to have on the new App that they themselves insisted everyone now use? Oh wait, NVM, this is EA that we are talking about here, of course they were that stupid.

Glad I helped someone...  I know, such a simple fix!

  • You were more helpful in this one post than all of EA. This was the only answer that fixed my problem. Very irritating that this simple fix has not been added to the EA app.
