Hi Everyone,
My partner has been experiencing this issue as well.
In her case the game would show the No connection to internet error at 2% download, and her friends list on the right of the App never loads either.
I have just been on her Mac taking a look, I have tried WiFi, Network, App Cache, EA App Uninstall/Re-Install, User Data deletion, VPN, Firewall, AntiVirus & none of these things work.
During this several hour journey however, I did find that in VPN & Filter section even with the VPN show as off the Filter & Proxy content filter was Enabled. As soon as I switched that to Disabled (as per the screenshot) the download move from its 2% failure and is currently 30% of the way through.
Will this work for you? I dont know, but its worth a check/try.
Settings>Network>VPN&Filters

You are welcome glad it works for you! FYI. Ours tried to turn itself back on several times so we deleted it completely from the VPN section.
