Latest app version has removed background service toggle

EA app version 13.428.0.5941 has removed the option in Settings - Application to disable the EA background service. In the latest version, this option is no longer present, and the EA background service is now force enabled. This change is unacceptable, and a major problem for program isolation. If this is a bug, then it needs a critical resolution; if this is an intended change, this simply must be reverted ASAP.

  • Hi Rytoxz,

Thank you for sharing this with us. We understand your concerns regarding the removal of the "Enable Background Services" toggle in the latest EA app update. While the option is no longer explicitly listed, background services can still be disabled by turning off both "Continue updates while the app is closed" (in Settings > Download) and "Application updates" (in Settings > Application) in the settings menu.

Once these toggles have been turned off, the background service should remain disabled upon the next launch of the EA app and all subsequent launches. However, the service may still run automatically while the client is actively in use or running in the background. Once the client is fully closed, the background service should shut down within a minute or two, as was the case with the previous toggle.

We appreciate your feedback and will share it with the team.

    Thanks again!

Hello, I had already disabled "Continue updates while the app is closed," but I just disabled "Application updates" as well. With this setting turned off, I can confirm that the EA background service now closes about 30 seconds after the client is closed, just as it did before. Thank you for the information - this resolves the issue. However, as feedback, I prefer the separate option so that games can still update automatically while the client is manually opened.
