Re: "An error on our end caused your launch to fail. Try again a little later."

Hi. It seems just moving the game out of the steam folders then clicking play on the game on steam launches the game just fine. 

No idea why that worked but at this point I don't even want to question it. They might just update the EA app again and break this "fix"  Massive thank you for your steps
