I tried to download the game through origin, didn't work there either. Something looks really weird and makes me unsure if something has happened with my access to the game? All other games on origin have background pictures except for dragon age inquisition. Trying to redownload the game now to see if that works, but there really is something super weird happening with inquisition.

Try to clear your Origin cache.
All settings in Origin (only in Origin not in the games) are back to default settings after this.)

      • Close Origin completely. (right click on the Origin symbol in the task bar > close)
      • Close Steam completely.
      • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
      • Type or copy and paste "%ProgramData%/Origin" (without quotes) into the new window > hit ENTER
      • Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for the "LocalContent" folder.
(The "LocalContent" folder must remain untouched.)
      • Delete the "Dragon Age Inquisition" folder inside the "LocalContent" folder.
      • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
      • Type or copy and paste "%AppData%" (without quotes) into the new window > hit ENTER
      • Now your Windows explorer should have brought you to your "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Roaming" folder.
      • Delete the "Origin"  folder inside the "Roaming" folder.
      • In the address bar of your Windows explorer click on the word "AppData".
      • Open the "Local" folder.
      • Delete the "Origin"  folder inside the  "Local" folder.
      • Restart your PC  > Test.

Did you tried to repair the games?

Hadn't heard of this tip before, tried it out but to no avail. Still no background picture for dragon age inquisition, game still doesnt launch. Hoping EA support gets back to me as this seems to be beyond anything I can troubleshoot, moreso a verification server on the launchers side

  • Yeah, multiple repairs, multiple complete reinstalls to different drives. I've noticed this issue actually happens with a few other games, and while I thought I had it narrowed down to games using frostbite engines or similar, all of my mass effect games work including Andromeda, which is frostbite. Star wars battlefront 2, star wars squadrons, Inquisition all don't work. I could attribute that to cross over platforms, except that Inquisition was directly from origin/ea App. I have not cleared the roaming folder, I'll try that, but it's feeling like a direct incompatability issue somewhere along the backend.

Appreciate the input, anyway, @holger1405 . 🙂 Will see what happens!

  • No joy killing the cache, either, sadly. BF2142 launches, too, just as another test along the lines of other games. So for some reason so far it's Inquisition, Battlefront 2, and Squadrons that are having issues. Squadrons I'd never played before, picked that up as a free game from epic not too long ago, Inquisition I have over 500 hours on, and battlefront 2 i have about a hundred hours on. So could have been a cache issue on a couple, but shouldn't have been on squadrons. Feels like an issue with the EA background interfacing still. Not sure there's anything I can do on my end, sadly, but still trying. 🙂 I miss playing Inquisition. :P

    @w0lfcl4w @Zenxarllsnim

If it would be a server issue we probably would see much more complains here.
But it might be a account issue.
Please let us know if support can fix it.

  • You might want to look at the steam forums, there are hundreds of complaints, and you know less than 1% of people effected are actually coming to the forums. Most people don't have time to actively complain, or seek a solution. Just because it only effects a small percentile of people, doesn't mean there isn't a problem. It just means the problem doesn't effect everyone. There is the possibility it is account based, but I think it's more likely it's protocol based, and several games share the same protocols, that likely conflict with some driver for a specific piece of hardware. Asus' software driver was conflicting with a lot of things, RGB controllers conflict with a lot of things. I'm running pretty minimalistic, and have made sure to disable anything that isn't necessary, armoury crate's stupid drivers for example, but I'm thinkin there's still a conflict somewhere.

The fact that some games work, means it's not all encompassing. The fact that an entire batch of games doesn't, atleast for me, means there's a trait shared in there somewhere. I just wish I could nail it down, and fix it on my end. :P I know i'm far more willing to put the effort in than for them to bother with paying a dev for fixing something in older games, so I'll do what I can. Sadly it's kind of looking like swapping out hardware might be the easiest test, but i'm not sitting on a ton of spare video cards, or motherboards, or feel like doing that for specifically EA games. What it really comes down to, I would love to buy and play the new Dragon Age. Will EA App/Origin launch it? I'm not sure I wish to take the risk until I can solve the other ones.

    Zen.

On a side note, I'll try logging into my wife's account, and see if I can run it. It works on her system, if it doesn't work on my system, on her account, it will rule out the possibility of it being account based. Will report back afterwards.

  • Launching from my wife's account didn't work either, same error. I'm trying a repair from her account, maybe that'll do something different, though there's lots of doubt. I tried launching the other games from her account, and it outright broke the crap out of EA app, because it was linked to a different epic account. Wouldn't even start after that, had to force a logout and relog. Don't advise doing that again hehe.

My next step may be to contact support, but as a tech myself... I'm thinking this one's a lost cause on my side. Still, willing to take other suggestions, so keep'em comin. I'm on a fairly fresh install of windows, everything has been uninstalled, reinstalled. I've tried both on EA app, and afterwards installed Origin to see if I got a different result. Multiple repair installs, multiple installs to different directories. Downloaded other games to test with (Star wars battlefront 2, bf2142, Squadrons) Squadrons and battlefront 2 don't work, bf2142 does, all my mass effect games work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all of the vc redistributions, all of the directx distributions I can find (both webinstaller, and from the game's directory), have installed all of the .net framework. I figured it might be a directx 9 issue, so Installed that. Same result with every attempt. Click on it, Ea app disappears, tries to load, and then pops back to EA app. (origin does the same thing) Squadrons loads the splash screen for the Easy Cheat, but then does the same.

Feel free to share your thoughts. Thanks. 😉

Ahh, also deleted all of my saves, and the cache files for cleanliness purposes, too. Sorry, missed that.

And this is the same result as last time from a repair from her account. Think that rules that out. 🙂

why does this say solved when none of these worked

  • The original guy who posted marked it as a solution, despite multiple other people having the same problem. :P Might need to open another ticket, and contact support, I suppose, but I personally was hoping to avoid running through the same troubleshooting steps i've already been doing to arrive at the exact same spot, hehe.

I've tried to get in contact with EA support over email but i'm receiving literally zero help at all, just the same questions time and time again. Now they're literally shutting the email down and there is no EA support for someone like me who lives in Sweden. Nothing I do will make this game work, the problem is obviously not on my end because everything else, every other program and game works without issue. There is either something wrong with my EA account, or with the EA/origin applications. If EA can't solve it they should refund those that are unable to play because of their ineptitude.

    @Zenxarllsnim

Did you use or used any mods?

Did you run App recovery inside EA app and restarted the machine afterwards?

Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that  with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window. +

Edit: What is the version number of your EA app?

I would also strongly suggest to uninstall EA app and use Origin wile troubleshooting this, there are know issues that are not solved regarding EA app and Steam link.

  • No mods, was a clean install, not too long after a clean windows install. (Think I did that about last month)

DXDiag included, many many restarts in and around, that's the first thing I try for any issue, cause RAM is pretty volatile, hehe. I have tried the App recovery about three times, doesn't change anything. No issues anywhere, but origin/EA app stuff.

That's my app version, should be upto date.

I have not uninstalled EA app, i'll try that, and just use origin, though I'm not using steam to link it, it's from origin's library. I'll get back to you after uninstalling EA app, and trying that out, but I think that's a task for tomorrow, since it's almost 12:30 am hehe.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah, it autoqueued all of my games for repair, so that's definitely a tomorrow report back, hehe. Will see what happens. 🙂

  • Alright, after the EA app uninstall, origin went through a repair setup of all of the games, and then I figured I might as well reboot too, just to get a fresh start. It no longer gives the error of 'Something went wrong on our side, try back in a little while', and now just does what it was originally doing, starting inquisition up, failing to load, and reloading origin without any error messages. That's the truly aggravating part, if I had any error message, I might be able to narrow the scope of troubleshooting hehe. As it is, not sure what might be conflicting. I also tried restarting with no startup programs, or services loaded (outside of microsoft) and still the same situation.

Thanks again for your time and consideration. 🙂

Literally right after I posted that, Geforce posted a new video driver, so I might as well install that and see if anything different happens, hehe.

  • Yeah, wishful thinking on the video driver. Did a clean install of that, and no change. While I'm on drivers, maybe I should check to see if there's any updates for my chipset and sound drivers. Couldn't hurt I suppose. :P

  • I found a common issue with all of the games i'm having problems with (though still only on EA/Origin). They all run Denuvo DRM. The games I can run on origin don't have it. So, i'm thinking there's a fail in the authentication protocol therein. Thus runs my theory. Now to figure out why, or find a way around it. EA, want to remove Denuvo for me specifically, so I can test this theory? ;p

    @Zenxarllsnim

DAi is crashing with an PCA2 error.

PCA2 is the Windows "Program Compatibility Assistant". Did you set a compatibility setting or "run as Administrator" in the the "DragonAgeInquisition.exe"?

A Denuvo problem is of course possible, but did you tried a clean boot or a new Windows user account without any special characters in the user name or password?

Looking at a  dump might give more inside:

    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    • In the new Window, type or copy and paste "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) > Press ENTER
    • Look if there are any "DragonAgeInquisition.exe.Xxxx.dmp" files in the "..Local\CrashDumps" folder.
    • Zip 2 - 3 "DragonAgeInquisition.exe.Xxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at a free file hosting service like Dropbox or Onedrive.
    • Post the link here.

If there aren't any dump files of ME:

    • Press the Windows key > Write: Command Prompt > Right click on "Command Prompt" in the search results > Run as administrator.
    • Copy and paste reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\devenv.exe" /v DumpType /d 2 /t REG_DWORD into the prompt Window > Press ENTER.
    • Play the game until it crashes.
    • After the game crashes, let all Windows crash dialogues finish.
    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time. > Type "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" (Without the quotation marks) into the new window > Press ENTER.
    • Zip 2 - 3 "DragonAgeInquisition.exe.Xxxx.dmp" files together and upload them at file hosting service like Dropbox, or you can use the Onedrive "public" folder.
    • Post the link here.

If you want to undo the automatic dump creation, use the command below in a elevated command prompt (As in point 1) reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps" /f
  • I tried every compatibility under the sun, but that's ok, that wasn't what it was. I solved my issue, sort of. It's an incompatibility between denuvo, Ea app, and Frostyfix (which I believe is just an access adjustment for file folders based upon vague recollection). You mentioning mods made me consider looking into that, while THAT game wasn't modded, I was using them for mass effect Andromeda. (Which did work, since no Denuvo.) Star ocean Divine Force works with steam/denuvo, so it was the combination of all of them together that seems to be the issue.

I was using the global fix in frostyfix - the targetted one doesn't cause the SAME issue, but also generates other network interference for running games in Andromeda, and possibly may cause issues elsewhere. I might have to find another work around, but currently disabling all mods in frostyfix allows me to launch all of the games I'm having problems with. This obviously isn't an issue specifically to EA app, but has contributing factors from all of them, and may never be fixed. Still, wanted to post my solution so others who might not think of it can try it out. 🙂

Thanks for your time and assistance on this Holger, I wouldn't have checked into it without your comment about mods, especially since i had none installed for those specific games, otherwise. 🙂

    @Zenxarllsnim

Frosty sets an environment variable, so if you set this variable for Andromeda, you must "Disable Mods" at the Frost Fix main Window, before launching a different Frostbite game without mods, or it will not start.
    (See the Frosty Fix FAQ.)

    You're welcome!

    Have fun gaming!

@Zenxarllsnim I uninstalled the ea app, then installed Origin. Ea took over the origin app, installed itself and uninstalled Origin. Can't win.
