Been a week now and no progress on fixing the problem. Still 3 or 4 emails from EA Help each day, each as useless as the next. They acknowledge that I am having problems installing the EA app but send, as they did just now, a troubleshooting guide called:
“”Games that won't download, install, or load in the EA app”
which is completely irrelevant and has nothing to do with the EA app not installing. Just like the connectivity troubleshooting guide they sent. I mean, what is the point of EA Help? Really?

Last email from EA Help I received this morning asks me to “elaborate on my problem”…..
How does one even respond to this?
Now at the point where I know EA Help can’t do anything (yes, it took me this long, I can’t explain why. Misguided? Naive? Insane?). Obviously each time you reply back they don’t see any history of what’s been sent and replied, etc. they just guess and send you random troubleshooting guides. They’re now back to where I started.
The email I received before that said, “ I see that you are having problems installing the EA app” and then sends me the troubleshooting guide for when games won’t download. Totally useless.
Will try here for a couple more days to see if anyone can kindly suggest a possible solution.

Ok, finally found a fix on the boards:
Downloaded the msi installer as per above link and was able to install and run.
Persistence pays off.

this app does not run on win7,,great, what next,,update windows,,what a load of..
this works until it starts to say status: rolling back action. then the whole progress bar stops and goes backwards then I get this message.(screenshot linked to this message)
"EA desktop setup ended prematurely because of an error"
and EA help was completely unhelpful they just asked if I tried troubleshooting the issue. ofc I did that's why I'm asking for help because it didn't work. I just wanna play my games again.I had the same thing happen to me. After I uninstalled the EA app, I tried to reinstall it and it would never fully download and error out. I then tried the EA desktop setup, but what you described is the exact same thing that happened to me. Finally, I reached out to EA twice and their suggested troubleshooting tips didn't help at all. I then said screw it and tried troubleshooting myself. I uninstalled the most recent windows update, and low and behold I can now download the EA app again and play my games again! Hope this helps!
Just revert back to origin in the meantime. Will remove the forced update to ea app message.
Stop origin client loading EA app message;
1. Open C:\ProgramData\Origin\local.xml in notepad
2. Add new key there:<Setting key="MigrationDisabled" type="1" value="true" />
This should go at bottom just above the last line which is "</Settings>."
Save the file and exit. Now launch Origin and that stupid notice will be gone.
Congrats...you can now play your games properly. Also, set Origin settings to not automatically update. You can manually update games from in the library if you think there's an update you need for it.
Worka
- @KBAYSTSB Thank you so much this fixed my problem.
I was trying this but soon realized there was no notepad file in there, neither one named "local.xml".
Its in Program Data Not program files. Program Data is hidden by default you might need to show hidden folders within the drive.
- @KBAYSTSB thank you soooo much. im on and cant wait til friday
Thank you so much for this! It has worked perfectly so far! the first fix i've found that works.
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DOWNLOAD THIS FOR A MONTH JUST TO PLAY SIMS PC, AND I REALLY THINK YOU JUST SOLVED ALL MY PROBLEMS.
- @RockHardSemi07 finally a solution that actually works thank you
All good man ,Doesn't fix the ea app issue but atleast allows us to play on origin in the meantime.
I've been having the same problem, but when I use the MSI installer I get "EA desktop setup wizard ended prematurely because of an error" Does anyone else have a solution or idea?
- @RockHardSemi07 nvm they * patched it thanks ea now I cant play my games anymore because your app doesnt work
- @KBAYSTSB Thank You very much. The download/installation failed me a couple dozen times. Installing from this msi worked immediately. I followed the EA instructions to the letter and still failure. You have succeeded where EA has failed.
Aww man it stopped working. Tried your steps again and it won't work. ☹️ boooo!
Nice! That's good it worked for you.
Mine installs. Both EA App and msi installer work, but it "Oh Snap Crashes" every time and asks to restart a few times until it just freezes there on screen.
Tried everything listed in multiple posts on this site. Disabled antivirus and firewall. No VPN connection. Uninstalled, removed, deleted. Rebooted. Reinstalled through different downloads.
I also tried installing through the Xbox app since the game pass has Battlefield 1 too but it errors instantly.
I think it's happened so much that EA has stopped having the Send Crash Report box checked by default. They don't want to hear about issues.
EA's DRM is sooo good that even those who buy games from EA can't play them. Now that's security!
Bonjour, j'ai le même problème mais votre solution n'a pas supprimé le message
Thank you so much, problem solved!🙌
