Re: EA app (NOT in Turkey) - Blank/Greyed Out Game Tiles etc. - Since May 22nd, '24

For about a week now, the EA app doesn't load my library. It doesn't say any text about an error, it just keeps buffering and doesn't load. The home screen is loaded (after a long wait tbh) but any other page stays black and the library on the right also doesn't load. I have already done all the standard fixes I found online - cache clean, restarting my laptop, re-installing the app, but none of it works. I want to update my Sims 4 game because they're doing temporary freebies and now I'm missing out on them! Can someone help me?

    @Juulxx1

If your game library is still showing as empty, please try the following steps to clear this up: You stated you tried some of these but see if the steps work.

First, make sure in the task manager the EA_Backgroundservices is not running.

    • Open task manager, locate EA Background Service, and end task
    • Clear the cache for the EA app
    • Check that the EA app is fully updated
    • Run the EA app as an administrator
    • Check for any background applications blocking the EA App

    • Make sure the EA app or other launcher is closed.
    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    • Type or copy and paste "%ProgramData%
    • Navigate to Electronic Arts\EA Services
    • In the license folder, you can delete all the files

As these are license files for older titles, you won't lose any progress or data.

Clear the cache for the EA app, and if the game has the option, repair the game and launch it again.

  • I am having this problem too, and have done all the fixes that I can see, except for me the home page loads instantly, the EA play page loads instantly, but clicking on game titles causes the infinite loading you mentioned. Trying to play my games is impossible currently.

(And that community manager seems to have linked some outdated material, because I'm pretty sure his article on allowing "origin" into the Antivirus is a bit.. you know.. out of date.. Pretty sure it's called the EA app now..? Classic EA... Next they'll charge me to solve the issue with my library!)

  • I have the same problem, I did everything ridiculous, but there is no improvement, I can't install and play the games I paid for, please fix this nonsense. EA does not stand behind its application, I will complain.

@jenzinyo Did you try these as well?

    1. Go to the Control Panel
    2. Programs and Features
    3. Uninstall EVERY SINGLE Microsoft C++ Redistributable
    4. Download the EA App installer but DON’T RUN YET
    5. go to VC-Redist and download the appropriate architecture of the latest C++
    6. Install the C++ Package
    7. Go to Local Disk/Program Files/ Electronic Arts AND DELETE THE ENTIRE ELECTRONIC ARTS FOLDER
    8. Restart Computer
    9. Install EA App

i had the exact same issue, it worked not long ago and nothing changed on my pc so EA must have changed something on their end.

turns out i was using an alternate DNS for my vpn service.  when i changed the DNS to google (8.8.4.4 and/or 8.8.8.8) and did an ipconfig /flushdns, then terminate EABackgroundService, then restart app, everything shows up!  hope this helps someone.

Interesting, I have a DNS blocker running on my network (PiHole) and I just ran into the same issue.

Like most people, nothing changed on my end so I wonder if the EA App started using a different domain name for the library?

On the other end, I doubt everyone else using the EA App is running a custom DNS or DNS blocker on their network, so there must be some other underlying issue for everyone else as well...

    Edit:

    • for PiHole/AdGuard/DNS blocker I found this thread
    • for the greater issue of library not visible, this appear to have started since May 22, for which I've found this thread
  • @cajetan19 thanks for the DNS hint. I use a VPN with secured DNS servers managed by the VPN provider. This is why then my Library does not load.

I tested though that the need to access sdk.split.io is only when the EA App starts up.

Deactivating my VPN for the app startup solves the library loading problem and, once it is loaded, I can turn on my VPN with secured DNS Servers without losing the Library anymore.

It seems the App looks for sdk.split.io only once, during its startup.

After that, I am able to launch my games as it was before the May 22nd update, i.e. with an active VPN.
