It's been down for me since around 5:30am this morning (I am on a break from work finally so got up early to play) so that means it's been over 12 hours down for me and counting. I Play Mass Effect, Dead Space and Need For Speed mostly, and all the games themselves do work, it's only the EA Desktop App that doesn't.
If I use my VPN to log into the App, then once open disconnect my VPN, and immediately launch the game I want to play.
Th reason to launch the game right away, for me, is that the App will error out, saying I'm offline...but remain open (displaying an error or need to restart screen).
As long as I don't touch anything in the App, I can keep playing my games. (Been playing Mass effect 2 LE for the last 5 hours or so, and played some Need For Speed Heat earlier (Yup, the online functions did work)
And yeah, for me the chat support rep sent me the standard network troubleshooting steps, and after that said she forwarded the info along and I would just have to wait for a resolution....and then told me that if I used my VPN in anyway I would be risking a ban for violating ToS.
This isn't an us issue, it's an EA issue, and if you chat with support, don't let them say so, make them report the issue to whomever they have to, and then save the chat transcript just in case.
My network settings are fine, the worked yesterday and nothing has changed. Plus, like I mentioned earlier, using my VPN to log into servers from cities people report to have issues in, or even to my own city (The VPN server is right across town from me) Everything works fine.
