Your best bet is to first clear the cache of the EA app. You can do this in the app itself by going to Help > App Recovery > Clear Cache.

If you are still having issue with the download afterwards then please let me know. I have had similar issues with updating Apex Legends in the past via the EA app, but I'm not sure if that's because I am constantly switching between Origin and the EA app or if there is an actual bug.
