The Sims 3 version you're viewing is the 64-bit/Metal variant, as well as the non-64-bit/Metal variant. Whether you accessed it through Origin for Mac or the EA app for Mac, it's the same version, just presented differently.
Could you share the model and build year of your current Mac, as well as the macOS version you're running?

I got a 2012 (not retina) MacBook Pro running macOS Catalina

@LukasFaltstrom, alright, in that case, you should be fine since macOS Catalina is 64-bit and it looks like you can play the 64-bit version of the game via the EA app. 🙂
