Re: Windows PC EA app not launching

Greetings,

First, uninstall the EA app via Windows Add/Remove features (or via Windows Settings>App>Installed Apps).

On BOTH Admin session and the local Standard user session do the following:
1. Via Windows+R clear %Appdata% and ...\AppData\local (one directory above) from Origin, EA and Electronic Arts folders
2. Via Windows+R clear %Programdata% of Origin, EA and Electronic Arts folders
3. Via Windows+R clear the content of "temp", %temp% and prefetch
4. Manually delete C:\Program Files\EA Games and C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts folders
5. Have CCleaner (extra software) fix the registry and also have it do a "Custom clean" to the PC (removes many files) can be downloaded at https://www.ccleaner.com/ (free version does the trick)
6. Download EA app from EA website at https://www.ea.com/ea-app and install on admin session

Now login to EA app on admin session, sign out of admin session then login to local Standard user session and launch EA app without admin rights and login to EA app!

Hope this helps

E

P.S. I found a folder named "Origin" either in %AppData%, \AppData\local or %ProgramData% on the admin account I think. I thus suspect that the inability to login to EA app could be caused by having Origin files messing up with EA app files at some point.

    Will definitely give it a try, but as far as my believe goes, it won't work. Let's hope for the best. Coming back this evening.

    @elpasbeau I tried that, and my issue is still not resolved. The "Connecting to the EA App" screen pops up, disappears, and then nothing happens. No error messages, if I try to load up the EA App again, it brings up a window, but it is entirely blank, and in the logs (in AppData/local/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/Logs/EADesktop.log), it brings up the error message I referred to above. The weird thing is, if I stop the "EABackgroundService" service from Services or the Task Manager, the Login Window pops up for about 3 seconds, and then the EA App shuts down. It makes me think the issue is specifically with the EABackgroundService.

    @CTCB

    • You tried downloading EA app from another web browser?
    • You installed the app on admin session?
    • You tried reseting the EA app via App_Recovery.exe? (Both with and without admin rights)
    • You tried updating the EA app via EA updater.exe?
    • You tried using File explorer and search for the keyword “Origin”, “EA”, “Electronic Arts” and delete those folders?
    • You tried running sfc /scannow from cmd and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth from powershell?
    • You tried fully uninstalling EA app from all accounts as I suggested in my post then create a new user session under Windows and install EA app on that session?
    • You tried downloading EA app from another PC/network?

    With such a precise issue (error message), I think EA support would be the best to assist you.

    @elpasbeau

    This is what I've already done...

    I've tried numerous fresh installs of the EA App, multiple different versions, all lead to the same issue.

    I always make sure that the EXE(s) are set to launch with admin privileges.

    I've tried running an updated EA App, using the EA App updater. This is what lead to me finding a more verbose (for lack of a better word) Error Message.

    I've tried this on two PCs (custom built gaming PC and a Surface Pro 6), both on Windows 11, both of which have been upgraded to Windows 11 from Windows 10. I've got the same issue on both. My friend, who also has Windows 11 has no problems with the EA App, but he had Windows 11 freshly installed, something I cannot do, due to not having enough storage overhead to back up stuff I'd need to keep.

    I've ran SFC /ScanNow, and all the aforementioned DISM things.

    I've done the stuff you mentioned above, most of which I already do between installs. The only thing I did differently, is uninstall through IOBit Uninstaller, because once the app has uninstalled, it checks the registry for any residual entries, keys, etc and allows me to check them and delete as necessary.

    I've also done a fresh install of:
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x86) [14.34.31938]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) [14.34.31938]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable (x86) [12.0.40664]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable (x64) [12.0.40664]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) [11.0.61030]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64) [11.0.61030]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x86) [10.0.40219]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable (x64) [10.0.40219]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (x86) [9.0.30729.6161]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (x64) [9.0.30729.6161]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x86) [8.0.61001]
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64) [8.0.61000]
    ...All from links available on the Microsoft Website.

    I've got in contact with EA Support, and honestly, it is one of the worst experiences I've had, the last time. The handler did not understand what I was saying, and kept trying to talk as if I had a problem with a game. Then switched to saying its a server problem (it clearly isn't), and then tried to say that I should contact Microsoft Support.

    EA app still not working for me, same issue...

    Handshake failed with fatal error SSL_ERROR_SSL: error:1417C0C7:SSL routines:tls_process_client_certificate : peer did not return a certificate

    Whatever.

    Installed origin again ( it is still working 😎 ), and I am playing the game.

  • Have been having this issue and in a last attempt before completely giving up I right clicked the sims 4 and ran it as administrator. EA app opened and let me log in and play.
