Sims 4 Update Stuck Paused on Mac

It says I need an update (I played day before yesterday just fine if that's important), but every time I try and download it the download pauses immediately and won't unpause. It says to restart the EA app (the app says that a lot and it is only sometimes the right thing to do, but I've tried both doing it and not doing it). If I cancel the update and retry I just get the same thing. I removed all my mods and tried the support link but it's still set up to fix Origin. There is no error code, it just says an unknown error occurred. I've also tried both giving it my password to make changes and not giving it, which usually works. I know the EA app is unreliable but I've been able to troubleshoot it before now and now I just don't know what to do.
