Syndicate (2012) Not launching

Whenever I try to launch my digital copy of the game, Syndicate, it tells me the product can't be activated on my computer using the Origin account provided.

If I try to enter my product activation code, it tells me my computer is offline, when it's not, and that the code can't be entered.

I think this has to do with Origin being replaced with EA launcher, since I used to be able to play it on my computer, before the launcher was changed.

Please fix this so that your game I bought is still playable.

Same. Ridiculous that a SP game can just be broken like this without a fix.

Edit: Found this and it worked! Still stupid that it took weeks for me to finally find it.

  • I have very recent memories of Syndicate as I have got it to work on PC through the EA app (co-op not working servers are shut down) I was previously unable to make it work as it was (technically still is) incompatible with the EA app and only worked with the now unsupported EA ORIGIN app with no fix supplied by EA or any other possible fix via forums online that I could find. I (with the assistance of Co-Pilot and Chat-GPT) have now made it work, by altering some of the values in the Environment.cfg file (Syndicate main folder) (in Visual Studio Code. line 9- SKIPINTRO=1, line 25- VID_FULLSCREEN_WINDOW_TOGGLE_ENABLED=1, line 26- VID_DWIDTH=2560, line 27- VID_DHEIGHT=1440 put your screen res here but the game will default to 1920x1080 which you can change in the settings, don't forget to SAVE changes in VSC or whatever app it opens in) and setting the (\EA Games\Syndicate\System\Win32_x86_Release) Syndicate.exe properties Compatibility mode to Windows 7. It now runs via the EA app. Happy holidays 🎉

    Hi,

I have a cd copy of the game and have redeemed it on origin when it was working more than a decade ago. Unfortunately I am unsure of how to install it from the cd since you have to try and bypass Origin in order to get to the game installer. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I do not know, but this is what co-pilot gave me...

can i add games to ea app via disc?

You can use a disc to install EA games, but the EA App will not “add” the game directly from the disc the way Origin used to. The disc mainly helps install files faster — the EA App still requires the game to be linked to your EA account and may still download updates or even the full game in some cases.

Here’s the clearest breakdown based on what EA has said and what users report:

🎮 Can you install EA games from a disc?

    Partially.

If your disc includes a product key, you can redeem that key in the EA App. Once redeemed, the game appears in your library.

However, the EA App often ignores the disc installer and instead wants to download the game from EA’s servers. This is exactly what users have reported: the EA App shows only a download option even when the disc is present.

    🟦 Why this happens

The EA App is designed to download the latest version of the game.

Disc versions are usually outdated, so EA forces a download to ensure compatibility.

Origin used to allow disc installation more reliably; the EA App does not.

    🟢 What does work

If you already have the game files installed (from a disc or backup), you can sometimes point the EA App to the folder so it won’t redownload everything. This method is documented in guides like TechBloat’s explanation of adding already-downloaded games to the EA App.

    🔴 What doesn’t work

You cannot insert a disc and expect the EA App to automatically install from it.

You cannot bypass EA’s download requirement if the app decides it needs the online version.

✔️ What you can do right now

Redeem the product key in the EA App (if not already redeemed).

Insert the disc and let it install files if the installer runs.

Point the EA App to the installation folder (Manage → Locate Game) to avoid a full redownload — this works for some titles.

If the EA App still insists on downloading, unfortunately there’s no override.

If you want, I can walk you through the “locate game” method or help troubleshoot a specific title.

Point the EA App to the installation folder (Manage → Locate Game) to avoid a full redownload — this works for some titles....Where do I find the Manage -> Locate Game ?

You’re not missing anything — the EA App hides this option a bit, and in some cases it doesn’t appear at all depending on the game’s state. Here’s the clearest way to find it.

🎯 Where “Manage → Locate Game” should appear

You’ll only see Locate Game when the EA App thinks the game is not installed.

    Try this:

Method 1 — From your Library

    Open the EA App

    Go to My Collection

Find the game you want to add

Click the three dots (…) on the game tile

    Choose Manage

If supported, you’ll see Locate Game in that menu

If the game tile shows only Download, the option may be hidden until you start the download.

Method 2 — Trigger the option

This trick often makes the option appear:

    Click Download on the game

When it asks for an install location, cancel the download

Go back to the game tile → three dots (…) → Manage

    Now Locate Game may appear

This works because the EA App now “expects” an install folder.

Method 3 — If the option never appears

Some games simply don’t support Locate Game in the EA App yet. In those cases, the app forces a full download even if the files already exist.

This is a known limitation of the EA App compared to Origin.

If you want, tell me which game you’re trying to add and I can check whether Locate Game is supported for that title.

This is for Syndicate (2012) disc

Syndicate (2012) is one of those older EA titles where the EA App often does not show the “Locate Game” option at all, even if you have the disc. You’re running into a known limitation — and it’s not your fault.

Here’s what’s going on and what you can realistically do.

🎮 Why “Locate Game” usually doesn’t appear for Syndicate (2012)

    Syndicate is:

    A legacy EA game

Originally released for Origin, not the EA App

    No longer actively updated

Not fully integrated into the EA App’s “Locate Game” system

Because of that, the EA App typically forces a full download even if you have the disc files installed.

This is why you’re not seeing:

My Collection → … (three dots) → Manage → Locate Game

For Syndicate, that menu often only shows Download.

🟦 Does the disc help at all?

    Unfortunately, not much.

The disc installer can copy files to your PC, but the EA App still wants to:

    Verify the license online

Download the current version (even if it’s identical to the disc version)

So the disc doesn’t bypass the download requirement.

🟡 What you can try (but may not work)

Some users have had luck with this workaround:

Start the Download in the EA App

Let it create the install folder

    Pause the download

Copy the disc-installed files into that folder

    Resume the download

The EA App sometimes skips chunks of the download if it recognizes matching files.

But for Syndicate, results vary — some people still get a full download.

    🔴 The honest bottom line

For Syndicate (2012), the EA App usually does not support Locate Game, and you’ll almost always be forced to download the game through EA’s servers even if you own the disc.

If you want, I can walk you through the folder‑copy method step by step, or check whether your disc version includes a redeemable product key.

This is stupid, just adding a game to the library would be so much simpler

It is stupid — and you’re absolutely right to be annoyed.

EA took something that used to be simple in Origin (“Add Game → Point to folder → Done”) and replaced it with a system that forces downloads even when you literally own the disc and have the files sitting on your drive.

You’re not missing a hidden button. The EA App genuinely removed the straightforward “add existing game” workflow for many older titles, including Syndicate.

🎯 Why it feels so backwards

    You already bought the game.

    You already have the disc.

    You already have the files.

And yet the EA App still insists on downloading the whole thing again.

It’s not a technical limitation — it’s just how EA designed the new launcher. They want every installation to be verified and pulled from their servers, even if it wastes your time and bandwidth.

    💬 You’re not alone

Syndicate, Crysis 2/3, Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 3, and a bunch of other disc-era EA games all have the same issue. The community has been complaining about it since the EA App launched.

🟡 If you want the simplest path

For Syndicate specifically, the reality is:

The EA App will not let you add it manually.

    It will force a download.

I know that’s not the answer you want, but it’s the honest one.

If you want, I can help you get the fastest workaround or check whether your disc key is still redeemable — but your frustration is completely justified.

The attachment is the full conversation plus a compressed version at the end view in notepad. Maybe it is possible to add a non-Steam game to your Steam library (the Syndicate.exe) if you have it installed on your PC which will likely open it via the EA app, not sure about this though. I had to remove any links that were included in the co-pilot chat that might have solutions so you could use the prompts I put into co-pilot to get those links. I got a digital key/copy from instant gaming website which is why it worked (with adjustments) through the EA app.
