Good new! The forum has custom avatars now!
DivinylsFan I've moved your thread to the forum feedback section so the people who actually work on the forum can see it.
The yellow spot you chose is a default placeholder provided by the forum host, essentially a blank to be replaced by custom avatars from the company (EA in this case). Sometimes when avatars aren't loading properly or haven't been refreshed, you can see the default option and choose it, then actually get whatever EA has chosen to replace it with instead. So the yellow spot isn't supposed to be available at all; it's just showing up here and there.
As for why you're getting two different avatars in one thread, at the same time... I have no idea.
Why does the avatar keep going to a young boy by default when there's an update? That's twice in the last week or so its happened. Its discriminatory and inappropriate.
I chose the yellow spot because I saw that the green plumbob I had before had been changed to a young boy silhouette like yours because of some kind of glich or update, and the yellow spot was the only alternative available that didn't display an anime-type or non-Sims 3 character.
DivinylsFan as you already noticed and puzzleaddict highlighted, there's an annoying bug we are dealing with.
Due to caching issues, the avatars sometimes seemingly get reset, and currently the only fix is a server cache clear and restart.
We are waiting for engineering to fix the underlying issue so that this doesn't happen again.
Of note for your original point is that we are actually working on replacing the avatars available now with a mechanism for users to pick their own custom avatars in the future. It's still a bit out, but it's coming.
Hello!
Its happened again. And it has reverted to a young boy silhouette. Why is it a boy? Why isn't it a girl? I've indicated on my profile that I'm female. I'm offended.
It's an annoying, intermittent bug and we are looking to get it resolved.
For what it's worth, it's still showing the plumbob for your avatar for me.
As for the image, It's a default, short haired avatar provided by our platform host that is not intended to be a representation of ones gender.
I'm not the only person on this forum who has expressed it appears to be a boy. It is misogynistic.

Thanks for the heads-up, EA_Nils. Would be nice to get my "River Mcirish" avatar again.
Thanks for the reassurance that personal avatars are coming EA_Nils 👏🏻
I honestly can't wait for it for y'all. 💜
The first thing I noticed when adjusting profile settings was the (lack of) amount of avatars compared to Answers HQ. We had literally 500 to choose from there, here it's literally 50. Why is that and will taht change?
