The workings of this forum....

I don't know if I am doing anything wrong (I am on a pc) but I was just reading a discussion with a lot of responses, and instead of taking me to page 2, 3 or whatever, it just asked me to 'show more' (I had to do this several times) - and then took me back to the very top to have to scroll down tons of responses to actually get to the last one.

I find this really annoying. Am I doing something wrong or is this the way it works? Because that's going to be a nightmare when a post gets to 2000 responses or more. Why is there not a 'last page' or 'last post' option at least? Sigh...

  • This forum is way slower than the old forum, and I really hope they will improve it. My biggest problems is that the forum keep reloading several times, probably because I prefer to sort by Newest. I often wait a full minute for the page to be ready and stabile. It nsturally means I use this forum less than I would like to.

It would help if they allowed "sort by Newst" by default. And if we could choose to see more pposts before needing to "Load more". Needing to load more every 5-6 posts incl. loading times gets tedious.

My impression s that this forum was not designed for long threads with many pictures, but more for 1 question + 5 replies.

  • It's the way this forum works. It appears designed to require as many clicks as possible to get to a conversation. In the previous forum it was possible to go from main page  straight to a subsection or even a topic, now you need to click several times to do that. Same thing with topics, there's no easy way to navigate within them, you need to click, click, click through each and every show more button. And sometimes it will take you to the Simpsons or Stars Wars forums for no reason at all.

Oh boy.... Why change something that works well, to something that doesn't work well.... 🙄 I sincerely doubt I will be using this forum as much as I did the old one. That's kinda sad but oh well....

And yes; I noticed the taking you to another forum as well - again I thought it was me doing something wrong. But I guess I am not that old after all... 😅

  • I totally agree with what is said here. This forum is slower than the old one. Sort by newest takes some time to load and sometimes I get thrown back to the first post with everything having to load again.

This forum feels more like a popularity contest than a proper place for discussion in the way it always sorts by most likes. It is very hard to follow a discussion if everything is jumbled together. Sorting by oldest only works for short discussions because otherwise you only get really old posts. Sorting by newest means you read everything backwards, harder to get the logic. On the old forums clicking on a discussion automatically took us to the older unread reply, followed by chronological posts , that's an option I really miss here. Having pages instead of a load more button also allowed to easily navigate in long threads.

The slow loading times and the difficulty to read chronologically really hinder this forum. I don't think I will use it as intensely as the old one, to my great regret.

Unfortunately, that's how this forum works. There's definitely room for improvement, especially when it comes to the constant refreshing (and taking you to the top of the page).

You can post your feedback here: Questions & Feedback on EA Forums' functionality | EA Forums

There are already a few threads from Simmers in that section, so maybe you can chime in on them (if you manage to read it, which is a bit of challenge with longer threads).

Me to. Someone from EA needs to have a look at the old forum to see how it worked because this forum is very hard to use. I had a look at the old forum today. Yes it's still here. How long for I don't know

  • I don't think it is supposed to work that way. When you push the show more button, it's supposed to refresh and take you to the next page of posts. It then should also have a show more button at the top of the posts in case you want to go back.

It does work that way sometimes, but more often the page just goes white and takes me back to what I just read like you described. Also sometimes when I click on a topic from my PC, the link takes me somewhere else instead. This is especially true when I click on the time link.
