Cannot check FAB Ratibi card balance when trying to buy EA game

Hi,

I am having a bit of an issue and not sure if anyone else here from the UAE has faced something similar.

I am using a First Abu Dhabi Bank Ratibi card and tried to make a purchase on Electronic Arts for one of their games, but the payment failed saying there are not enough funds. The problem is I am not even able to properly confirm my current balance on the card before retrying.

I usually rely on checking balance through my phone, but lately it has been inconsistent and I am not always sure if the amount I am seeing is up to date. Since Ratibi cards are a bit different from regular accounts, I do not have full online banking access like a normal account, which makes it harder to double check before making any online payment.

Because of this I ended up attempting the payment twice without being fully sure of the available balance, and both times it failed. I am trying to avoid multiple failed transactions or any kind of temporary block on the card.

If anyone here is using a Ratibi card with FAB, how do you normally check your balance in a reliable way before making online purchases? I just want to make sure I am using the right method and not missing something simple.

    Issues with payment methods are something that you'd need to address on your side.

  • Yeah, that’s pretty common with Ratibi cards. The main issue is the balance isn’t always updated in real time, especially on the phone. So you might be seeing an older amount, and when you try to pay, it just fails because the actual balance is lower or not fully available yet. What usually works best is checking your balance at an FAB ATM — that’s the most accurate. If you’re using SMS or an app, just keep in mind it can lag a bit. Also, for online payments like EA, sometimes they try to hold a little extra amount, so even if your balance looks enough, it can still get declined. 🤗
