can't link steam account to ea account

I'm trying to sign into EA with steam and I know the details for my steam account, however, when trying to sign in with steam I was prompted to enter a new email address, the email is currently use is already connected to another EA account, so I entered an old email and tried to get the verification code from that but I can't get into that email but anytime I try to start the process again that old email is linked now and it will only let me use that one for a verification code. What do I do? (I hope this make sense).
