Bit of a necro-post here, but thought I would update since this thread appears in google searches for my issue.
I never heard back from them despite them promising to elevate the ticket. Another ticket on the same issue today resulted in another promise to elevate the issue and update me via the forums - given the track record, I remain unhopeful.
If any EA community manager is able to look into this I'd appreciate it, as it cannot be that hard to change a display name in a database.

Hey Minaithnir sorry to see that you are still having issues.
When you check your cases what status do they show?
Any case closed off will have meant that an email with all the relevant info was sent.
