EA Buyout Deal

I'm not sure where to put this, but I guess this is a place to start.

I just read that a consortium has agreed to buy EA in a 55 billion dollar deal, taking the company private. It is a group of companies that includes Saudi Arabia (which I read already owns a 10% interest in EA) and a group led by Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law. This is all over the news right now but I haven't seen it mentioned here.

I am wondering what other players' thoughts are about this, and what we think the future might hold for The Sims. I have worked at a company that had the opposite happen, where the company was private, then was sold to investors and taken public, and that didn't go very well. They made a lot of promises that things wouldn't change, but they did start changing things right away, and a lot of long-time employees quit.

It sounds like the sports aspects of EA is a big factor in the deal, so I'm worried that they might just dump The Sims or not give it much love. This is all coming out right when the new pack is set to drop, and now I'm not sure I even want to buy it, if I don't know what the future is going to hold. Anyone else have thoughts?

  • I was wondering the same thing. I guess we'll have to wait and see and hope for the best...but I did purchase the Sims 4 Adventure Awaits. 🤷‍♀️

  • I dont think we have to worry about anything. As long the sims still sells, they are probably not going to make major changes.

  • I did as well buy the new Adventure Awaits. Hoping for the best with the game but I can honestly say I don't have warm and fuzzies about the sale and to who.

  • They say it takes up until 2027 to finish the deal?!
Until then i will enjoy EA games but after that EA will be deleted from my PC.

As Battlefield requires Kernel level software to be installed, i do not trust these firms to maintain the privacy.
As the "little man" there is no way to fight this. The majority will keep buying it anyway, that´s why it is the only way to secure my data.
Same as i did with Meta and Alphabet -> block them from my system.

Same here. I guess that we won't see any changes immediately. The whole process will take months, perhaps over a year?

It does seem the EA Sports franchise games are what the Saudis are most interested in.

It will be interesting. Just hope it's for the good, and doesn't negatively effect us, EA gamers/customers!?!

Kernel level access is not something I'm not keen about either. That goes for almost everything.

But, you mentioned 2027 (thanks for that info.) Things may change? Market research is likely to show a lot of folks are not comfortable with such deep system access/integration. It would cost them sales. Just not sure by how much?
