TFA provides an extra barrier from our accounts being compromised and account loss. It requires two forms of authentication from 2 diverse sources, so adds extra ways of preventing and reducing the security risks of unwanted access to our accounts. If a hacker or a scammer is able to get access to one means of authentication, they still need to be able to access the other one too.
Also TFA is often time sensitive in that you need to enter a code in a short time, so it is an extra layer of protection. There is a limited time when a code can be used to try to access an account.
I think that it also encourages us to be more security aware. It requires just that little more work to authenticate twice, and reminds us that our accounts are important and are worth putting in the extra work to protect them. It reminds us that we should keep being alert on security risks, and helps to overall reduce the risk of account loss.
