UNABLE TO CLOSE A POP-UP AD

When playing a crossword game, vertical and horizontal ads will pop-up.  I'm fine with that.  The problem is the horizonal ads have a "Close Ad" selection, but the vertical ones do not.  How do I Close the vertical ad without having to restart the game everytime please?
