My friend and I were having the same problem. We'd get through most of the fight ok. Towards the end though, the shockwaves from the arms would destroy the flaming cans before they could get sucked up. One time we got stuck on a loop of him just slamming the ground like others said.
I was playing on a laptop with lowered graphics settings. He was playing on a PC with all of the graphics settings at the highest level.
He lowered his settings to match mine and it fixed the issue.
