Simply put, the keybinding system in the game is utterly broken on PC.
Ran into issues yesterday where the default keybinds simply wouldn't work on controller. The game would register both left trigger and left bumper to Build. Going into the menu to reiterate what they should be (resetting both entries to the settings defaulted to) does nothing.
I fixed the problem by just swapping the inputs. The game was insistent that left trigger be build and if any other input is bound there, then it's going to build instead. So left trigger build, left bumper interact. Simple enough workaround on my end, but the option to remap them should still be functional.
Today I had another problem. Last night I swapped my Keyboard/Mouse controls in order to try out Bow. Went fine, went to sleep. This morning back on my controller and now the sprint button is still sprint when you hold it, but the initial press is now jump. So I can't sprint or sheathe my weapon without jumping first.
Essentially I made spacebar into dodge for Keyboard, which worked fine on keyboard, but broke my sprint button (right bumper) on my controller by making it register as two separate inputs.
The only way to fix it was to reset Keyboard/Mouse controls back to defaults.
It appears that no matter which input system you're using (keyboard/mouse or controller) the game is only registering one set of inputs somehow so your keybinding essentially overlaps... but not on every input, as I swapped several other keybinds with no ill effect on controller so it's not even a consistent problem.
To replicate: In keyboard settings set space to dodge and left alt to jump. Then try sprinting and other inputs on controller. It is repeatable on my end.
This sucks. Bad. Keybinding is an important basic functionality. Furthermore, being able to swap freely between keyboard/mouse and controller is one of the best perks of playing on PC.
I like this game. I want it to get some sequels and give MH a run for their money. That's not going to happen if the PC launch has fundamental control issues like this.
