How to play Wild Hearts with my son in co-op

How do I play this game with my son? I am on Steam how do I play this with my son do we each need the game on Steam? I want to surprise him.

    Yes, you each need a copy of the game, it has crossplay, so if your son would like to play from his PS5 or Xbox Series, that could work too, but if he has steam that would be the easiest to gift him a copy of the game.

    Once you start playing there will be a tutorial explaining how to play co-op.
