I had a similar issue but I later resolved it.
I have the game downloaded through the EA app and played it with friends several times in the past using the invite.
Then all of a sudden the invites were not being received. After spending hours troubleshooting trying to get it to work this time around, I noticed that the friend I was sending invites to was from the friends list I imported from Steam to EA and I usually have my Steam app running, mostly in the background, but this time it wasn’t. So, I decided to run the Steam app, go back to the EA app, start the game and resend invite and it finally worked.
I think in my case the game needed to do some sort of friend verification using the Steam app service. Both my friend and I had our Steam service running.
