I've been encountering the same issue, and it still hasn't been resolved.
Hope someone has some help for this, because we really wanted to play the game.

Are you account/game sharing with a friend? If so, try activating your own systems as primary and see if it works.
Do you happen to have an EA Play Pro subscription? It might be doing something strange with authentification

Happening for me too, can't fix it. Not account sharing, don't have subscription. Got the game from a code. Xbox store shows I own the game but inside the game it says I just have trial. Tried turning off home xbox and hard rebooting, no help. I'm connected to the internet

Actually my issue was I had the wrong version of the game, need the digital version

The system I am using is currently set as the primary, and I do not have EA Play Pro, but it does feel like it could be related to some authentification error.
I tried deleting the game and system info for the game, and even after reinstalling it just does not want to work.- 5 years ago
i am having the same problem a day after the fact and it is still not fixed. starting to want a refund on this game.

I’m game sharing with my son and we cannot play. I can start a lobby but then he can’t get online. Then he can start a lobby and then I can’t join. No idea what to do
