It Takes Two: Pirates Ahoy Octopus final fight

I'm playing with someone and we cannot get past this stage. It runs horribly. We tried switching hosts to see if that changes anything. Surprisingly, we changed to 30 fps which actually helped for the beginning of the chapter, but got progressively worse. Don't know what to do.
