Mouse not working on it takes two on Xbox

Me and my dad have been playing it takes two on a Xbox series x and I would play on keyboard and mouse and he would play on controller but the mouse just won’t do anything ingame and it’s not the mouse because it’s working on other games and it’s made the game unplayable as when you get to the part where you use a hammer and nail you need the mouse to do things with them.
