Linux EA Play on Steam

I was very excited to access EA Play on my Linux box. I signed up the moment the update went live. Unfortunately Origin is, put simply, a nightmare. It actively and aggressively gets in the way, offering nothing but interference.

Steam has proven, conclusively, that it does not have to be this way. EA Play on Steam *could* have made playing EA games on linux a pleasant, no-hassle experience. Pretty much literally download and play. But no, I now have to install Origin PER GAME *on Steam* and it's pure luck whether or not the game itself actually launches. So far, my list of EA Play games that do work on linux via steam is: Dead Space 3.

One game.

That's worse than pathetic. I'm just relieved I only played £3.99 to check first.

I've also tried Origin via Lutris. It took roughly half an hour to launch (on my Ryzen 3600 build) then wouldn't let me log in. Total, massive fail.

You almost certainly have a load of linux users waiting to give you their money, and they can't because your Origin front end doesn't work. It is legendarily garbage. Please, please, fit it or remove it. Let linux users give you their money.

  • Sorry to see that you are having issues @kia_sovari but you need Origin in order to play an EA title through Steam and Origin does not currently support Linux.

I am happy to pass your feedback on.

  • The problem has been solved! or at least explained. I recently bought a new laptop that came with windows 11 installed, and with windows comes the xbox one account, and with the xbox one account comes the free EA account.

In conclusion, EA play will never work on Linux because EA is balls deep in bed with Microsoft.

  • bro actually told him to stop spamming when he was just talking about how this weird company doesn't care abt the players & don't wanna make things easier for them LMAO

  • @CptnOblvs The Mass Effect series is one of my all-time favorite games, but I can't play it because the EA App is broken and crashes on launch (Error: Background services crashed). So I decided to stop buying any EA games until this is fixed, it's been two years, and it is still not fixed. I swear I will pay someone to bypass this bloatware for my existing games and never buy from EA again.
  • This isn't spam, it's your company being called out for being anti-consumer. I will never buy a single product from you again, and will pirate it instead since you make purchasing much more difficult than downloading a pirated version for free

  • @Armafortis @EA_Darko You fixed it. I'm still not a fan of having a "launcher" bloatware, it is bad for preservation and will break again, I'm sure of it. But thanks for fixing it.
