I've tried using all of my debit cards through the EA app, my debit card through paypal, my bank account through paypal, I've tried manually adding my debit card to be stored as payment methods through the EA site, which immediately gives the following error, which is the same error I'm getting no matter what I do:
We were unable to verify your credit or debit card. Please check your payment details and try again. Alternatively try another credit card or payment option or check with your card issuer or bank.
I've updated my EA account to have my real name (it was blank before), birthdate is there, but I can't find anywhere to add a billing address. I've made purchases before, but not for a long while, I own several games. My location says United States and that's where I am and I'm not using a VPN or anything other than my ISP.
I have submitted a help request, haven't gotten any reply yet, I used the "I need help downloading a game" option to get to that contact form because I didn't see another one that was relevant. Also it seems like whenever I go to check if there's been a reply I have to 'resume my case', is that normal?
It seems rather difficult to reach a person for support. Is there a phone number I can call?
There isn't a direct line to call, but on the help site you can select Game Support-> EA Account-> I want to check my order status. From there, you should be seeing a live chat option.
